This cohort study found lower rates of non–COVID-19 mortality among vaccinated persons compared with unvaccinated persons in a large, sociodemographically diverse population during December 2020–July 2021. There is no increased risk for mortality among COVID-19 vaccine recipients. This finding reinforces the safety profile of currently approved COVID-19 vaccines in the United States.

Remember, this study is all-cause mortality excluding covid. The vaccines are not associated with an increase in excess deaths.

It says this was done with the assumption that doing so would result in a study group similar to people who would take a covid vaccine, but I don't believe there is anything to support that assumption.

What I want to see is an all causes of death study, which doesn't focus on official "vaccine status", but instead reports received the vaccine or not. Since you're officially "unvaccinated" until more than 2 weeks after your second dose, it moves all side effect deaths into the unvaccinated category.
