As far as antibiotics, the rationing them argument is a misdirection. We're actively wrecking all of them with widespread use with cattle, chickens, etc. There's no point to withholding them from humans when millions of farm animals are getting them daily and they aren't even to treat an illness.

I'm not sure that there's "no point", but that is a valid argument otherwise. The real issue, however, is that resistance typically is a problem when you create it in your OWN flora. Community wide resistance is a problem, but the people who will more likely die from a "superbug" are the ones who took unnecessary antibiotics and taught their own bacteria too many tricks. Antibiotics are a Darwinian process-even if you have a true bacterial infection and need the medication, the bacteria are faced with a choice-"get smart" or die. Some of them will figure out the former. If you take them often enough you are nearly assured that your flora will have resistance.

I found it interesting that almost all (if not all) the countries I visited during my Panama Canal cruise boosted that no prescription was required to get medication. They have socialized medicine, so normally the socialist-dems would embrace the concept.

My personal opinion. I believe we need to make Roofies, Antibiotics, sleeping pills, morphine, Xanax and all meds over the counter! Available for all ages! 4th grades should be able to buy the ingredients to make LEAN!

On almost a daily basis the pharmacy at the hospital my wife works at overrules some MD's order because of possible bad interactions with other meds. Really, most drugs should be able to be bought without a doctor's order. The pharmacist is more than capable of advising people what to buy.
