The old pledge somehow lost today.
As we're seeing with many things, they've altered the meaning of such things... So the CDC changed the definition of a vaccine

Personally, I prefer the 'old' meanings as not only more relevant, but more in line with what we are supposed to be working from...

As I posited in an earlier post above, if things aren't working out with the economy, with vaccinations and COVID in general, with... pick your topic, then whatever happened to going back to basics.

In a now, often repeated phrase... never let a crisis go to waste. Put another way, as we have repeatedly discussed on countless threads, COVID has been politicized and used as a vehicle to push myriad agendas from across the political spectrum. With the Left currently in control of the levers of power, it's no surprise they'd push agenda items they haven't been able to push through while Government has been divided and/or with Republicans in control.
Speaking of which... Why the politicization of COVID is a bad sign for climate change

Note that last line. "Our fealty to freedom" is potentially preventing us from doing what some perceive as necessary. Uh... I thought that was the whole point of the United States, the Constitution, our culture... An ability to do what We the People see as necessary and protect individuals from what certain people felt was mandatory based on an agenda of the moment.
