    My personal experience

So last week I went to Houston for work - attended a trade show and some customer visits. All went well. Most places, especially indoors, I'd say 75 % of the people wore masks.

I was there with a co-worker. We met up at IAH on Monday PM and were together until we parted at the airport Thursday AM.

I wasn't aware at the time but found out he isn't vaccinated. I am.

So this last Monday he texted me saying he's feeling rotten & has a fever and all. He said it started Saturday night and he got tested Monday AM - he's got Covid.

I tested here in Los Angeles and my test has come back negative. I feel fine.

It's not exactly scientific but from my POV, the vaccine worked.

I know - Cool Story Bro.

So called shot, only will lessen the effects if you contract. Does not protect you from contracting or spreading.

It's exactly like the flu shot....

It prevents you from getting very sick, but does not prevent you from getting it or spreading it.

It's to minimize extreme illness symptoms.

Most of the people in our ER who are admitted did not get any vaccine.

OP, come back after full two weeks and let us know if you get it or not. My rona symptoms started 10 days after I got exposed. It is for sure 10 days for me because during those 10 days I stay at home on quarantine and didn’t see anybody, except my wife. With my wife we were fully separated-she was on second floor and I was on first. We even didn’t see each other.

You have no idea if the "vaccine worked". I have been around several people that wound up sick and work made me go get tested before coming back in the office. Negative every time. I don't have that therapeutic poison in my bloodstream.

Thanks for sharing your experience and that you're OK and I hope your colleague recovers without incident.

Since you both had travel and social contact, you both experienced similar environments. One thing to consider is that you are two very different people, different genetics, different health histories, different personal habits, etc, etc. With billions of micro-organisms surrounding us constantly, and living in us, and being individuals, each person's experience is uniquely theirs.

It's entirely possible you could have been unvaccinated and did exactly what you did and not fallen ill, or the reverse for him, vaccinated and fallen ill. It didn't work out that way and, prior to Covid we didn't give such variability much thought as regular citizens not involved in the day to day of science and virology.

Perhaps one side effect of this is people have become more educated, or at least have been provided the impetus, and will make decisions differently in the future or reinforce their prior processes with more knowledge. Sure hasn't been a pleasant road. Hope the trade show went well.

Was just talking to an engineer at work this morning. His brother is a full on lefty and went to a party with 8 of his friends a couple weeks ago. They are all 100% vaxed. 8 of them came down with rona and his brother thought he had escaped it. Nope, just took a little longer to get to him. He got it too. There you go. 9/9 vaxed and still sick. Being a lefty hypocrite like they are, he says he regrets telling his work about it because they are making him stay home. He wanted to go to work after testing positive and feeling sick. Those people are Fd up in the head.

Seriously, party people are the #1 type of working-age-person getting sick.

                      Cool story.

I went to Vegas to visit family around August first. Stayed on the strip, hung out in the casinos a bit, no mask except at the craps table, then the next week to Jersey for work where some of the people I was working with told a story about a fully vaccinated coworker getting it and they had been working in close proximity and were concerned.

Full disclosure, started taking HCQ prophylactically the week before the Jersey trip. No shot yet.

You likely have good habits and behaviors that prevented it. Most people don't.
