I think this is actually more crucial than many will realize. I've never tried to overtly downplay or dismiss the potential seriousness of the virus; but, I have, repeatedly, noted how it has been USED to promote various agenda. In that sense, there is truth in...

Both sides are guilty of manipulating things to their advantage. However, there is also truth in the Left being more overt and having, what appears to be, loftier goals in their usage and far greater insidiousness in the narrative(s) they are availing themselves of. As I posted in an OT thread... Where does the Left stop?... the other day...

Right now, COVID is what is being utilized within the context of not allowing a crisis to go to waste. While it has become more pronounced and broad-reaching than most of the crises used in such a way, in the grand scheme of things, it's still only 'temporary.' The next crisis, legitimate or not, is right around the corner. Or, as we say on Calguns...

They have invested far too much into frightening their own voters. Now they have to push the freak show to the extreme, or risk getting called a fascist republican.

Anybody suspect that it's only a matter of time before we won't be allowed to discuss 'covid conspiracies and misinformation' on the calguns forum? I'm betting our days are numbered.

If we haven't chosen sides by now - one will be chosen for us.

              Own your decision people.

This has been one of the biggest problems throughout this entire fiasco. What do you base your decision on? Media accounts? Uh... Here are two from today's rotation covering the same story...

CDC data show 74% of people who tested positive for the virus in Massachusetts outbreak were fully vaccinated

'The sky is not falling': Provincetown outbreak shows vaccines work, even against Delta

Both contain elements of 'truth' and 'fact.' Both are, clearly, narratives. Even reading beyond the headlines, the question becomes... Does being vaccinated prove little/no consequence or is it helpful?

Clearly, the current regimes at all levels of Government, both Republican and Democrat, have their own version of Biden in 2019... Biden tells Iowans: 'We choose truth over facts'. Do the results currently favor many of the Republican narratives? I would say so, but that's been a topic for some time and is demonstrated in many of the articles noting the apparent 'partisan divide' among the 'vaccine hesitant.' (Although, my contention is the 'hesitancy' has less to do with political affiliation and more to do with unanswered questions.)

The actual Science articles are undecipherable to many and, as a result, they must 'rely' on interpretation. Here again, we end up with the same problem... narratives as opposed to objective and understandable translation tend to predominate.

Owning your decision is one thing. Actually making a truly informed decision to 'own' is something else. But, this muddled/mixed messaging has been, is, and continues to be a major factor in why mandates should not be imposed and individuals should be left to make their own decision.
