    Vietnam to the Rescue?

It seems the power brokers that loved the covid control are starting to lose their grip; reality is setting in, and even their beloved CA is about to go "wide open." Wala: Vietnam to the rescue with a new "aggressive" variant? How long till shutdown / control again?

It won't make any difference, because everyone had said "I'm willing to work from home for one year," (to wait for a vaccine). Were there no vaccine, after one year, people would go out partying anyway. Even the politicians and scientists admitted at the beginning of the lockdown people could not be made to wait for years and years for a vaccine, we would just have to go with whatever we got after one year.

The chance of actually getting severely sick or dying from COVID-19 is so low that this has been an entirely psychological exercise from the beginning. About 0.9% of Americans die each year anyway and COVID-19 is nowhere near that.
