    First News Article?

This was the story that got my attention. I read it on a Saturday morning and focused hard on preparations that weekend. Never did imagine it would get so ugly / bad / and poorly handled by our leaders.

    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?

      And

It also said the US Govt began screening people from China at US airports and that was at least two weeks before Trump was called a racist for doing so.

I first heard of it I think maybe soon after Chinese New Year's (probably early Feb.) I thought it was the next SARS, that is I couldn't care less, and did nothing to prepare. Not that it mattered, I got by okay with just some annoyances. A funny realization is that the old survivalist trick of using phone books for toilet paper isn't a great fallback plan anymore.

Not that I cared about catching it but now people freak out if you go to work with as much as a cold, that's what bothers me. My main mistake was not understanding how much everyone else in the Bay Area would get medieval with fear and unscientific remedies like cloth masks, and abandon any value they placed on liberty.

It was poorly handled by our leaders in the sense they did anything at all to try and stop it: the biggest surge was 8-9 months after the lockdown when everyone was thoroughly aware of what was going on. There are many risks in life and this disease's relative threat is minimal. As a comparison, the Spanish flu killed around 30 times as many people in their 20s and 30s as this coronavirus. And the current annual death rate in the U.S. is around 0.9% anyway.

British PM Boris Johnson said he didn't ban travel because he was afraid of being called racist.
