A May 2020 meta-study on pandemic influenza published by the US CDC found that face masks had no effect, neither as personal protective equipment nor as a source control.

I see your study, which also points out significant flaws with the studies they sampled, and raise you this one:

Look at the table that shows the studies they used for a tldr.

Prior to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the efficacy of community mask wearing to reduce the spread of respiratory infections was controversial because there were no solid relevant data to support their use. During the pandemic, the scientific evidence has increased. Compelling data now demonstrate that community mask wearing is an effective nonpharmacologic intervention to reduce the spread of this infection, especially as source control to prevent spread from infected persons, but also as protection to reduce wearers’ exposure to infection.
      Actually here we go.

Appreciate the study on masks, bigmike82, but would you have anymore?

Maybe? The science on this is relatively recent. Most of the other studies I've seen that occurred before covid tested efficacies compared with n95s in health care settings, not so much mask use in the general population.

Even after all restrictions are lifted (if they ever are) I guarantee lots of freakers will keep the masks, gloves and face shields on, even while driving. It is their security blanket.

Anyone driving around with a mask now is irrational to keep driving around with it on even after mommy government tells them they are "allowed" to take it off.

I hope that businesses demanding masks and social distancing will suffer less customer flow, while people flock to those that drop the mask.

However, I fear the brainwashed, now ocd, sheeple will flock to the mask businesses because their irrational feeling of it being safer.

I'm surprised In and Out and the Habit opened inside eating here in Utah.
I'm sure McDonalds and all the other fast food joints will permanently remain drive through only.. Thinking their profits will be the same.

"In Cour De Lane most people no masks except employees."

CDL is currently suffering an influx of new citizens. Real estate prices have doubled since last summer. People are voting with their feet.

Maybe. They seem to thrive off shame. They worry too much about superficial perceptions of themselves. I think very few of them honestly believe in all this nonsense. So shame them for being morons and maybe they will stop. But do we want them to? Maybe its good the weak minded are self labeling. Its easier to avoid them and give them all that distancing they want.

Just getting ready for a multistate road trip - Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado.

The bigger cities like Boise, Oklahoma City and Salt Lake still seem to be operating irrationally and wanting useless masks on the face, but the rest of the country I'll be driving through seems to operating normally. The wife called ahead at all the stops - they don't care if we wear a mask or not, so those are the places we'll be spending our money.

                            Smooth-brained Mask-Nazis can suck it.

Well, here's my report from my first day back at work (in Orem) after Utah state mask mandate expired. I usually work remotely but had to be in the office all day for some preparation for a demo tomorrow.

                              1) only came across one employee that was wearing a mask inside the building (probably about 100 people on site).
                              2) went to lunch at 5 Star Barbecue down the street, one customer wearing a mask, none of the three employees or other customers were masked.
                              3) post lunch discussion was 100% "I'm happy to be free of it"
                              4) A handful of comments about not patronizing restaurants and stores that will still require masks.

Overall, I got the feeling that there were very few that had drunk the kool-aid and was even surprised that a few of my colleagues, who i thought were a bit left leaning, are actually pretty conservative.
The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.
