In an ideal world, a mutation might actually end this pandemic. I don't see this particular mutation being the one, but imagine a hyper contagious strain that has a much reduced lethality - ie where less than 1 in a million would need a hospital stay. Its certainly possible.

Historically likely even.

Also, the vaccine works on pretty much any mutation of the virus that is actually infectious, so it's really NBD.
