I have a few opinions about masks.

I cannot get my head around the fact that you, who said you were a forensics specialist, and who presumably spent a career wearing respirators of all sorts to protect yourself from airborne contaminants, are an outspoken opponent of wearing masks for personal and community risk mitigation.

Even if the masking arm of the Danemask study only wore their masks a few hours a day one would expect to see a statistically significant difference in infection rates, but instead it was 0.3%.

Florida and Texas seem to be doing fine other than the regular Chicom media attacks for not obeying the CCP propaganda mandates.

The degree to which masks work depends on the quality of the mask and the quality of application. Obviously, if you are going to strap a scrap of panty hose to your face, the amount of protection you're going to obtain is pretty lousy. But quality masks, let along proper respirators, aren't unobtainable any more.

That's not the same as "masks don't work".

I'd like to see one conclusive SCIENTIFC study that masks effectively protect the individual AND community. No Fauci Fun Facts that are rarely based on facts. A scientific study from a recognized and peer reviewed scientific journal.

For the most part, masks are a distraction set up by the Demwitiots to further their attack on the President and to ignore the big issue, that being the creation and release of a virus on the US and world by the ChiCom government.

I am not opposed to wearing masks when appropriate. It should be an individual's choice. I am opposed to mandating ineffective masks. The compulsory and ineffective masks achieve nothing for the wearer or the persons around him. Well maybe it achieves sinus infections and could increase covid infections, but little else. Masks are mostly a virtue signal.

IF regular people learned how to use effective masks in an effective way then masks might help. That is just wishful thinking. It is flogged here and elsewhere that "only if we did this or that then masks would stop covid". Well, that is not the real world. The real world is the first sentence above.

If anyone has a study that shows masking works in the real world I am all ears. The truth is that most people are dirty monkeys. The dirty old mask from the floorboard of the car, worn on the chin, is not going to stop covid.

If an individual wishes to wear effective PPE I think that is great. That person is the 1%.

I've highly expected since day 1 that any "mask mandate" was likely to have very low to unmeasurable impact on the spread of the virus.

When studying a complex system, like the weather or the spread of a virus, that are just too many factors that affect the outcome, and with a very small change to just one factor, can have a potentially large impact on the outcome. Kind of like the "butterfly effect", look it up. There are just too many variables here such as the type of mask, are they correctly worn, % of wearers, does the wearer touch their face more now potentially increasing the risk of infection, population densities and movements, population health, the weather, time spent indoors versus outdoors, etc. etc. etc. that any any claim that a general mask mandate is good science is horse manure.

What lead me to my viewpoint is that I took a meteorology class in undergrad (BS Math/Comp Sci and Geology, MS Math/Comp Sci) and you quickly come to understand why it is so difficult to model and predict the weather more than a few days out. Also, studied laminar flow and fluid dynamics in streams and rivers and how this affects river course changes as part of my Geology thesis. These complex and dynamic systems are very difficult to model and understand, and yes, I know there are plenty of existing models that attempt to model virus spread, but as you can see from the actual data, mask mandates don't look to be correlated with the actual rates of spread. https://twitter.com/ianmSC This is the same reason all the climate change models have failed.

Better to quarantine the truly at risk (old people in nursing homes) and let everyone else go about their business. What we do know is that the economic impact world wide of the shutdowns is going to kill many more than Covid. I even think the WHO is projecting 8m dead from the economic shutdowns, but don't quote me on that number. Only thing stopping Covid is potential herd immunity and/or the vaccine.

You know there are a ton if good studies about various masks?

They all say the same thing. N95 or better are required to mitigate aerosols laden with virus. Those cloth and surgical masks only stop big gobs of spit but do nothing against aerosols.

Not to mention several studies regarding infection pathway via exposed eyes.

They are about public conditioning of compliance.

I think having a hanky to sneeze in would accomplish the same as the the poor quality mask wearing does now. Even if the public had the best ones, would they wear them air tight on the face? Probably most would not.

We can't escape the fact, that mask wearing and shaming for six months did little to change anything.
