    CA importing nurses

Apparently not even 10K a week pay is enough to raise the nurses needed to staff current crisis. https://www.latimes.com/california/s...tions-staffing
If I get COVID19, please let my doctor know (but not my wife) that I would like nurses in this order: Finnish > Swiss > Japanese > Inuit

I'm aware that I'm not being realistic. it'll be really hard to find an Inuit nurse.

A travelling nurse is rarer than a unicorn right now. Doctors/Nurses are looking at a merry Xmas of endless 12 hours shifts with no days off for the foreseeable future.

I guess you can dream, but 99% chance you'll get a Filipino nurse.
What's not to like about Filipino nurses. They're very friendly.

That's because you live in the real world, and aren't behind a monitor doing "research".

Wife routinely has 5 or 6 patients instead of 4. No CNAs so she has to do their tasks too. Hospital is offering $1500 plus time and a half for an extra shift. So I would say there is a shortage of nurses.

I wanna know where they are struggling to find nurses because they apparently have too many and are starting to get their hours cut
Without asking where your friends are, I would say that your friends are therefore in a the perfect position to profit from their expertise. https://www.fastaff.com/travel-nursing-jobs Given the current situation I expect these rates to go way up. A week ago I saw $9100 a week. LAT expects $10K a week if you look a little harder. These are also general ICU btw, specialized ICU nurses can also expect to be able to earn more.

I guess those aren't real world jobs then. or any of these, either. you've made several posts that implied you have "real-world" information; I think you said "those of us who who work at or around hospitals" - which are you, may I ask? are you at or "around" a hospital?

Wow, I haven't been offered any more than normal pay. No hazard or anything. My last shift working a COVID floor we had CNA's. Still one of the hardest assignments I have ever had. I can't imagine 5/6 COVID pts and no aid.

The thing people don't realize is the census can be managed. When this all started they dropped all elective stuff preparing to get hit. The big influx of pts never happened and nurses were left unemployed, myself included. Now we are seeing a huge influx of these pts but all the elective stuff being preformed and nurses going out sick. So now there is a staffing problem.

My wife gets texts from the hospital everyday to come in. They are offering $40 extra an hour.

I don't know how much you are getting paid right now, but if you're doing the same work anyway, would it be worth taking one of those jobs? Or, maybe negotiate for a major raise/hazard pay? Avg. pay for ICU nurse in LAC in normal times is $65 an hour. This is stupendously more than that. I'm no health economist, but it would seem that you (the nurse) is the hot commodity.

I didn't read this properly when I first saw this. $1500 -PLUS- OT rate? For a single shift? Wow, that is serious money. We're talking $3000+ for a single extra shift, and I'm probably estimating low. That's 20% more than a whole month's minimum wage pay, in a single 12 hour shift.

Ya, we are a hot commodity now. But if you live in an area with only one hospital and dump them now when they are short they are guna tell you to kick rocks 6 months from now when your trying to get your job back and these contracts are no longer available.

I'd also feel like I'm selling out my own community and coworkers.
