That is neither true nor the point of the article you linked. It's not like the virus is a ghost. It's quite contagious but we know its limitations. We know exactly how it spreads.Experts no idea how virus is spreading
What the MN article describes is what happens when an outbreak goes completely out of control, as is apparently happening in Sioux Falls and El Paso. At that point, contact tracing is difficult because it's everywhere at once. That doesn't mean it is impossible or pointless, however. What the article describes in ND is really an abject failure at the county, state, and federal level. If the state's contact tracers are overwhelmed, it isn't time to call it quits like they have apparently done. It's time to get reinforcements. That there aren't any just means that leadership does not have the will to do so. This is not entirely surprising, given that ND is on its fourth health czar since May, Gov. Burgum rescinded his own expanded quarantine order one day after he announced it, and basically hasn't put any mitigating measures in place since the beginning of the pandemic. From what I can see, his COVID19 response consists mainly of asking people to please stop spreading it. Doesn't seem to be working very well, considering that ND's stats look like this:

Note the % of staffed beds available. That's not just ICU, that's staffed beds in total. Their ICUs are probably already overwhelmed. In Sioux Falls, COVID19 positivity is ~48%. That's sky-high unless the only people they are testing is symptomatic people, which is unlikely since anybody who was near a sick person is likely going to get tested. That is the result of people not taking the virus seriously, and not taking the mitigating actions that we know can curtail transmission - basically all the things that quite a few here in this forum scoff at.
Note that there's no lockdown of businesses in SF, no mask mandate, etc. And yet, how do you think those restaurants, bars, and hair salons are doing right now? Think they are doing just fine, business doing great as usual? Doesn't look like it, considering the relief grant program that they just started. When your customers are worried about getting sick, lockdown or no lockdown, your business is going to be severely affected.
So keep refusing to wear masks, congregating in large groups, and telling everyone that "it's not even as deadly as the flu". Your local businesses are grateful for your bravado, I'm sure.Last edited by duenor; 11-01-2020, 1:35 AM.Entreprise Arms - FFL 07 manufacturer of CA-Legal FAL type rifles in Baldwin Park, CA.

I don't think duenor is trolling. He actually believes what he posts. But he's a 'Closer', this can be challenging to deal with when one is an 'Opener.'
No one on this forum is going to be convinced either way. I favor opening everything 100%, stopping the the endless testing (which isn't tracked in any central database), lifting all mask mandates. The closers tend to favor more government control, more restrictions, more testing. I'm afraid the latter approach will likely prevail due to the relentless media circus surrounding the virus. People have been successfully brainwashed, it only took about a month.Comment

Not in favor of lockdowns. Nor mandates, either, except that due to a number of reasons the personal responsibility model ain't working, either (as this forum clearly demonstrates).
I am certainly in favor of taking this virus seriously and looking at information critically before swallowing hook, line, and sinker though.Entreprise Arms - FFL 07 manufacturer of CA-Legal FAL type rifles in Baldwin Park, CA.

The Personal Responsibility model does work. Sweden is experiencing the 'surge' (just like all the others in the push for the One World Government) but it doesn't really impact society. Not in favor of lockdowns. Guess they can't fake enough deaths to make it track the faux 'cases'
(BTW I think a huge part of our problem is that the US population is actually relatively unhealthy. Even I could lose 10-20 lbs, but those who have 100-200 extra weight are in trouble with or without covid.)

To make covid go away, stop testing for it. Like magic, there will be no new cases.Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty.

Oh yeah, that's the ticket. Don't like termites? Don't inspect your attic. Don't want your kids to do badly in school? Stop looking at report cards. Hate having to keep up with car maintenance? If that Personal Responsibility model was working in the US, we wouldn't have people here on CG bragging about how they are having large gatherings and how no one dares stop them when walk right past the store employee trying to enforce store mask policy.
You aren't far off the mark with regards to general US population health, though. When I was reading up on North Dakota for that other thread, one of the govt articles described how Gov. Burgum has directed the state response to no longer differentiate between COVID19 deaths and COVID19 + comorbidities deaths. His reasoning, which I believe is sound, is that it gives the false impression that only people who are very sick have anything to worry about. He then went on to say that over 3/4ths of all ND residents have comorbidities.
So, basically everyone other than little kids is highly vulnerable, at least for ND.

Do we test everyone for the Flu? Do kids needs to quarantine for two weeks because of a runny nose? (This actually happened to my kid, school nurse diktat.) We don't test for the Flu because no one gives a crap when 80k old people die.
Next year, when only 80k die from the covid due to herd immunity achieved this year, will we also stop giving crap? I doubt it - because the liberals and globalists have learned to keep people in perpetual fear. They're making us forget what it was like to live and want to keep us focused on death.
Personal Responsibility: I'm going to take a risk and I'll gain something worthwhile. I'll bear the consequences if things go sideways. If that Personal Responsibility model was working in the US, we wouldn't have people here on CG bragging about how they are having large gatherings and how no one dares stop them when walk right past the store employee trying to enforce store mask policy.

Even fascist Dr Fauci knows how this works. "If you want to go on that Tinder date, go ahead, but know that there's some risk." Guy hooks up with a hot girl, likely worth it knowing this flu-like cousin of the common cold will not harm him.
In my case I know a riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a car. Driving a car in turn is more dangerous than having my groceries delivered to my door. Getting up in the morning is more dangerous than staying in bed. Nah. I'd rather get out and live my life, maskless. I've had the covid, can't get it, can't give it (unless next winter.)
This Christmas we'll have a large family gathering, certainly larger than Newsome's limit, it will be indoors and will run all evening. Should we 'take reponsibility' and not even do it? Or just run the risk of some people getting the covid? Everyone must decide for themselves if they wish to show up. Risk vs reward.Last edited by sd_shooter; 11-01-2020, 9:23 AM.Comment

"Next year, when only 80k die"
I predict a low flu-covid death year, depending if the coding is honest, and who is POTUS. Bad flu years are normally followed by light flu years. When many elderly and susceptible persons are taken by the flu, the next year the population has fewer deaths overall. There are relatively fewer people to get sick and die of flu.
This all begs the question. Elderly and infirm are supposed to die, we all die, it is normal. IF flu, or covid take them, it is normal way of the word. It has been that way forever and will never change. No amount of government meddling can change it. Despite their claim to the contrary the DNC can not keep you alive forever, ...really.Comment
