New Zealand goes into panic buying after lock down announced over 4 Corona cases

There are videos of huge lines to get into groceries stores and ransacking at others. Wasn't New Zealand the role model for how to handle the Rona back in March? 4 new cases ?

Ms Ardern implemented stay-at-home orders throughout Auckland for 72 hours from midday on Wednesday after four new cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed.

New Zealand is going to be a hermit kingdom like North Korea.

New Zealand, interchangeably with Germany, then Korea, were used as the example to bash president Trump over his "poor handling" of the virus crisis... The truth is this engineered virus is highly contagious and knows no boundaries...

I don't care one bit. They brought about this misery with their misguided lock down. Only Sweden got it right.

              I'd have to agree.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced early Monday that the country’s general election will be delayed until October, citing concerns over the lingering coronavirus pandemic.

Some attempted to hold New Zealand up as a 'model,' but they quickly ran into the unique advantages the island country has. It's similar to what's happened with Hawaii. While both can exercise a certain amount of control that other countries/states cannot, once the virus gets a secure foothold, many of those advantages turn into disadvantages.

In the end, in today's World, a country/state cannot successfully isolate itself entirely. In this case, the virus found a way and, now, New Zealand has to deal with it. But, systematically, they have legal options the United States, politically, does not; at least on a pragmatic level.

They have very small numbers. Things like contact tracing have a chance. Completely different than here. There are probably more people with Covid in my neighborhood that in the entire country of New Zealand.

At what cost? Decimating their entire tourist industry and everything that depends on it? Moronic. This virus is demonstrably Flu-like, and in developed countries like NZ not much of a threat. At worst they'd end up like Sweden.

What a ridiculous government response. Case number doesn’t matter by itself. It is the percentage of hospitalizations, and of those, hospitalizations that do not require ventilators, those that do, and the death rate of those overall hospitalizations.

Unfortunately, the American public seems to equate “cases” with “hospitalization”.

They already completely shut that down. That was months ago. I was not commenting on anything that they were doing in the past.

Yes. I feel bad for any people who where ventilated. I saw an interview of a British man in the hospital in China during the beginning and he said every patient in the hospital put on a ventilator died, so he told his wife do not let them vent me, he did breathing exercises and thankfully recovered. If I a layman in March could take note of that why didn't the medical community. Maybe that is why it is called a medical practice.

For something that is less deadly than the flu for a vast, vast majority of the population, this is stupidity beyond belief. Protect those who are most vulnerable and let the rest roll the dice as they see fit.
