    What Does This Comment Mean?

I was looking at the comments on a typical Yahoo scare article on the rising case counts and came across this one:

California is reporting a 50% increase from the State, but if you add up the numbers by County it shows a 50% decrease. When the Governor was asked he said "welcome to the numbers game."

What exactly is this person referring to and is it, in fact, true?

    I think it says

I'm from the government and I'm here to help you.

I agree that the statement makes no sense. I'd say that either the person producing the data or the reporter writing about it are math and logic challenged. Wait, it could be both of them.

The Governor thinks it's all a big game. He is a reckless fool....but then so are most of the legislators and voters in this once great state.

The Governor is in over his head.

His hour-long press briefing today was so painful to watch......he sucks at public speaking. He's not prepared, practiced or has reviewed anything on what he's supposed to say.
He shows no confidence and completely lost in the facts and numbers.

Someone in toastmasters get him signed up.......it's like nails on a chalkboard....ugggg!

New Los Angeles Coronavirus Cases Reportedly Plummet By 50%, But State Data Says Otherwise

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti reported 425 new coronavirus cases in the city. According to the mayor and the L.A. county department of public health, the county saw 1,260 new cases in the previous 24 hours. The mayor indicated that the new cases in the city represent a one-percent increase.

The reported cases in the county would represent a freefall of nearly 50 percent from the 2,364 reported Tuesday. Not to mention the differential with the all-time high of more than 2,500 the county reported on Monday.

As if it could not get any more confusing, the State of California’s county-by-county numbers indicated 2,508 new cases in L.A. County as of Wednesday.

When asked by Deadline about the discrepancy, Mayor Garcetti joked “welcome to the world of conflicting numbers.”

But Garcetti was not being glib about the situation. To drive the seriousness of the rising numbers home, the mayor put it more starkly: “One out of every 400 people in Los Angeles County has or has had COVID-19.”...
What it means, in effect, is that they will select whatever "number" supports their agenda-of-the-moment. In other words, there is still no consistency in the reporting. Put another way, it's kinda like watching the 'body counts' portrayed each night on the evening news.

Let's say they report 100 cases in the county. What they didn't mention is that 50 - 60 of those cases are two months old and the individuals have long recovered. Only 10 of those cases are from within the last week and it was not reported whether they were actually sick or simply tested positive. The rest? Well, unless you've been closely keeping track, the rest are lost in limbo; i.e., you don't know if they are fully recovered, recovering, still sick, or how many out of the 100 were asymptomatic.

Which number was reported? The 100. Okay. But, aren't we only really worried about the 10 from this week? What's the agenda?
