The clients and the stylists all wore face coverings, and the salon had set up other measures such as social distancing of chairs and staggered appointments, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department said this week.

Maybe JonChimpo from the other thread “looking for Non-masked haircut” can go see one of these ladies and get his hair cut without a mask! Lol

If, masks don't work, why do Healthcare workers wear them?

If they DO work, why did the CDC tell us not to wear them. This is supposed to be the top disease authority in the nation.

Did they just make an "oopsie!" and all these top doctors realize a week or a month later that they do work?

Ohhhh look! WHO in late May!

The World Health Organization is recommending that healthy people, including those who don't exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, only wear masks when taking care of someone infected with the contagion, a sharp contrast from the advice of American public health officials who recommend everyone wear a mask in public.

The horsecrap with this stuff is so thick.

Terrible messaging by both WHO & CDC. They should have just been honest.
                        The message should have been:

Masks work, but please don't horde them b/c there's a shortage and healthcare workers need them more than you do.

It was blatantly obvious that the early messaging on masks was befuddled at best and an outright lie at worst.

N95 masks don't work!......then why is the doctor in the ebola ward wearing one......hmmmmmmm

CDC and WH screwed up big time with this, agreed. Part of this I think is WH pressure to play down the threat until late March, part of this is the WH not having maintained its N95 stockpile so they didn't want to worsen mask shortages for medical staff, and finally part of this is American culture - people do not like wearing masks in the US whereas in some other cultures it is considered a commonsense measure of protection against pollution & disease.

That said, it is worth pointing out that the CDC has not been saying that masks work to protect YOU from getting the disease, they are urging everyone to mask up so that if you are infected (like this hairstylist) you don't give it to 140 other people.

Logic would easily fill in the gap that if a mask on the sick person is helpful, a mask on both the sick and the healthy is probably better.

People horded masks too, bc the messaging was clearly false. If, they had been honest from the beginning, maybe this silly masks don't work debate would be attenuated.

They managed to capture the worst of both worlds, they didn't prevent mask hoarding AND they led some people to believe masks are not effective.
