At 71. I have seen epidemics come and go, the largest in my lifetime being the H1N1 2009/2010 flu which had 60 million diagnosed cases in the U.S. (which was 20% of the population) and resulted in more than 12,000 direct H1N1 deaths (they did not add other influenza and pneumonia related deaths.
Although each epidemic brought its own concerns and fears, especially those that were new and unusual (MRSA, Flesh Eating Bacteria, Ebola, etc) there was never any widespread panic or paralyzing fear and certainly no national/state/local gestapo like reaction to the health threats.
What made this time so different? The fools at the WHO and their China overlords, the media and its blatant misrepresentations, the misled politicians or the leftist influence that used the epidemic to promote a socialist approach to control in order to undermine our basic capitalistic system?
Although I have followed this from the beginning, I still cannot track how it all went down and how we have arrived at the point we are today.
I have had a pregnant granddaughter become ill with the virus and emerge in good health several weeks later so I am familiar with the disease and what it can and cannot do. I have had more than 20 years of experience in infections control so I know how these organisms spread and what is real vs imagined in just how much risk there is in public. I also have absolutely on fear of the virus because of my personal hygiene, public habits and the fact that I live in a semi rural area.
On the other hand, even in my small town people are paralyzed with fear for no reason at all.
How did we get here?
