I visited Shanghai Disney in November a year ago and the lines were almost non existent by Disney standards. The Pirates ride had a 15 minute wait time. The longest we waited was about 50 mins for the Tron ride.

Yup. I could walk out of Pirates and walk right back in when I was there in March. Very different compared to the USA parks. Similar in Hong Kong.

I took the big kid to pirates a year and a half back. I felt that the video graphics effects were pretty lame and "bolted on" for the most part. The best part about the ride IMHO were always the animatronics and elaborate set pieces, from the banjo player to the cannons over the water. To me, as someone who has worked with the digital effects industry, the CG effects seem like a cheap way substitute for the classic (but very expensive) puppets and machinery.

I posted the link for two reasons. One, I was surprised to find that there are plenty of people willing to go to a theme park immediately after reopening - which is good news for economic recovery, although I expect that depends on how successful the initial governmental response is, and the degree to which that response engenders confidence.

Secondly, I was impressed by the ideas that Disney had - for example, they blocked out areas in the queue where people are NOT supposed to stand, as opposed to putting a little circle on the floor and telling people to cluster around it. It's a lot easier for everyone to figure out, oh, don't step on the yellow squares as opposed to "everyone try to huddle around this circle". If I were Costco I would implement that change right away, and as I am working on reopening I am glad to see these ideas so maybe I can borrow them - maybe use green tape to mark out "don't step" areas as opposed to paint.

I have only been to DL. I'm worried they won't be open by July. It'll be the first time I've missed a birthday trip since 1955. Wife & I are planning on Disney World next year for our 50th.

In reality, Chinese speaking pirates were probably far more common than English speaking pirates. Hong Kong and Macau were notorious dens of gambling, prostitution, slavery, and piracy. Bonus: Not just pirates, but pirate fleets led by a woman.

Double bonus: can anyone identify the rifles? circa ~1920s
