SF spends $30K /day on empty hotel rooms

I wonder how long this went on for.

For weeks, nearly 1,000 hotel rooms meant for frontline workers have sat empty in San Francisco. The city leased them when they saw how overwhelmed New York City was when its surge hit.

The city leased them when they saw how overwhelmed New York City was when its surge hit. The move has come at the cost of about $30,000 a day.But officials now say they overestimated the need. 80% of the rooms regularly went unused for the past several weeks, according to the SF Chronicle.

This is a good thing. The money goes to hotel operators rather than homeless and addicts.

That is very true but it's still on taxpayer's dime unfortunately. As long as it's not the vagrants & addicts, I'm ok

Getting the bill high enough to demand bailout.

It's so stupid that it smells like corruption. Which hotels, who owns them, and what politicians have they donated to? That's how lots of things work.

Don't even talk about how the government chooses who to award contracts to. The interests of the taxpayer are not even on the list of considerations.
