If this turns out to be true and Covid-19 follows a seasonal pattern it will be followed into the Southern Hemisphere. The next set of questions for epidemiologists will be is it mutating sufficiently that a) the tests need updating, b) the vaccine(s) developed are effective, c) the therapeutics developed/approved are effective, immunity and immunity modeling is understood.

While this is done today for influenza it is costly and has taken a severe hit in funding over the last decade. Asking the same resources to take on the global surveillance of corona virus is untenable. The entire system needs a major upgrade from top to bottom with the battle being fought on foreign shores. Testing for animal diseases starts with the animals in foreign countries. And education on how to keep their livestock disease free needs to happen where the disease happens, on foreign shores.

C-19 would have to be one hell of a robust lab created/weaponized virus to be able to thrive in sunlight, heat & humidity. Guess we'll all find out soon enough if this is a virus built to last or not.

Singapore is three degrees north of the equator and they have sustained spread. I've never been there, but I'd venture that it is hot and humid more or less year around.

They seemed to have it more contained many weeks ago, but it is growing pretty fast now. They may have passed the peak. Anyway it seems like a negative data point that northern hemisphere summer will stop the virus.
