Andrew Cuomo Now Giving Away Ventilators

We’ve stabilized our healthcare situation. New York had one of the earlier curves. There are other places in this country that are now seeing increases in the death rate,” Cuomo said, explaining why he was ready to donate ventilators.

Cuomo announced he would send 100 ventilators to Michigan and 50 ventilators to Maryland.

Cuomo spent weeks spreading the alarm that there might not be enough ventilators for New York, demanding that the federal government provide him 30,000 to 40,000 ventilators for his stockpile.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday at a press conference that he would start giving away ventilators to other states.

Not to speak up for the guy, but isn't this how it was suppose to happen? As your need diminishes you roll them over to the next hotspot? I can't begrudge the guy for listening to the CDC and trying to get ahead of this.

CA is giving them away too. Well, not really giving them away but "loaning" them out to those that need them more.

Every week at the start he was asking for the same amount, 30,000. Did not say he screwed up in the past for not stocking enough for emergency's. Good call.

I wonder how many patients actually got worse while on those ventilators...

              BTW, I dislike Gov. Cuomo.
One minute he's yammering for more help, then he's pushing back on Trump announcing that POTUS is the one to re-open the nation, and then when Trump gives over the controls to the governors, Cuomo comes back and begs for more assistance.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and President Trump clashed Friday after Cuomo demanded the president provide the funding necessary for the state to reopen the economy amid the coronavirus ciris, warning not to "pass the buck without passing the bucks."

                Well DUH!
All the hospitals that ramped up to take care of the mass carnage all sit empty now. There are a few victims, obviously, but not many.
My convention center turned into a, "Confirmed case, COVAD 19" hospital and we now sit at 6 patients.
In the first week, we had 3. Count them, 3. And one was ready to go home after 4 days.

In the past three weeks, not a single medical professional that I spoke with thought that this was a measured response to this nothing burger.
Yes, it's real. It's nasty. And it kills. But not even as much as a normal bad flu season.

This stuff we are going through with our overlords is dangerously ridiculous!

Don't recall where I read this, but at the peak of the crisis in NYC they were using 5k of a total normal operating capacity of 10k. They never needed all those excess vents. The models were very, very wrong.

From what I understand, if you are put on a ventilator , it mens your about to die. Your lungs have already failed. If 80% of people died on ventilators, that means they saved 20% of people who were already going to die.

I'm fine with ventilators being given to other cities and states that need them more. I'm not fine with them being thrown away, stuffed into storage and not used like Cuomo did early on (Puerto Rico style) while complaining his requests weren't met, and I wouldn't be fine with them being given to other countries.

My ex (respiratory nurse) told me anyone that ever gets put on a ventilator better have their affairs in order, last ditch life saving effort.

My father-in-law died on a ventilator back in 2016. He went in to the hospital with pneumonia, he O2 sats continued to decline, so he went on a ventilator. He never woke up from the induced coma. It appears he had a stroke while he was under. I think he was 70 years old. RIP Ed.
