FMLA has been in place for financial support and job security for bonding time for parents, and care for sick family members.
The part that is new is that they have updated it relating to the virus going on. It is called "Families First Coronavirus Response Act". It is temporarily extended to those who are sick or quarantined, and also to parents whose child's school or daycare has closed due to the virus, and need to stay home to care for the child.
This will apply to a lot of families out there. Pretty much anyone with a child (under 18) who was in school/daycare that is now closed will qualify.
