Important to note ACE2 expression rates aren't positively correlated with the disease or its severity.

For instance ACE2 expression drops naturally with age yet people become progressively more susceptible to severe cases of covid-19 the older they get. That's a strong negative correlation.

Smokers should be much more concerned about destroying their body's primary protection and airway clearing system. Airway cilia die from prolonged exposure to tobacco smoke.

I smoke and have for 35 years. I had c19 over a month ago. My case was entirely typical and required no special treatment. Read the report with a pinch of salt handy.

Lots of people dieing never smoked, but I'm quite sure it makes the chances of becoming a critical care case more likely. If your lungs are already thrashed from smoking, silicosis, mesothelioma, etc, your chances of having a harder time would be greater. I don't need a study to determine that. Healthy lungs have a better fighting chance, afterall, this virus specifically attacks lung tissue.
