As much as we want the republicans to stand by the "small government" *snicker* ideal, they were in a tough place.

What would happen if Senate republicans rejected the pork? Dems would make this an issue in October and the republicans could lose the Senate in November. Trump with a hostile Senate AND House would put a stop to all the winning.

The republicans are literally buying the Senate and hopefully the House with $5 trillion.

Maybe, but I don't like the idea of buying votes, no matter who does it. We could see our national debt grow over 10 trillion before this is over. How much of it is actually going in the peoples' pockets? I'm all in favor of helping those who need it, but this is out of control. Too many people happy that they're getting $1200, but 10 trillion spent means $30K of debt for every man, woman, and child in the US.

Has anybody had a chance to read it? I know they voted without reading but what about now?

His 'budget' was already 10t in the hole. He doesn't care. Republicans don't care.
If you want free trade, or 2a support, or small government , or fiscal responsibility; the Republicans have shown themselves to be either worthless, or untrustworthy. Pick which makes you feel better.

The President does not have the power to line item veto and Congress will never give it to him/her. Stuffing in pork spending bills is their bread and butter.

Presidents use to ask in their State of the Union speeches for the power to line item veto but seem to have given up on that.

McConnell is supposed to be tapping the brakes on the next bailout bill until they see how well the first one does. He knows the democrats are lining up all the pork they can conceive of for the next bailout. He wants to concentrate on approving Judges when Congress reconvenes.

Trump has never been against spending because borrowing has been cheap during his Presidency. These bailouts are off the charts, spending similar money to Bernie's pie in the sky plans. Future generations will be effected.

Well, I saw and heard "No Green Deal" come out of Trumps mouth in regard to that bill, so there's that.
