    Just the testing bogged down.

    Today over yesterday = 5739 / 4643 = 23.6% case rate growth

We have at least another week to go before statewide containment efforts can start to show up. In that time if the growth rate just stays above 20% / day we'll be over 20k cases by next Monday.

Expect those numbers to rise by significantly more than 20% per day if/when we can actually start running the mass number of tests being collected. The backlog is only growing right now, read below from a recent Mercury News article...

The state had conducted 89,600 tests as of Friday afternoon but only received results from just over 25,000 of them. More than 64,000 are pending. With a positive-test rate of 18.4% in the results that have come back, that would mean nearly 12,000 more cases across the state, which has a population of 39.7 million.

Not so fast, Pilgrim. Gavin hasn't even seized any firearms yet.

I like good news but I'm afraid this is just a hiccup. It's not uncommon for something on the rise to hesitate and then continue to rise.
I do not think this thing has, or will, peak in just three months.

I can't even fathom what this whole thing has cost me, I think many of us can say the same and we won't even know the full impact for a year probably. But the last thing I want to do is let up too soon and do it again.
Agreed. I think we should all stay in lock down for a full 30 days. I'm retired, but I do have a computer business that's crashed since this happened. I'll get it going again once this crap's over with.

                    https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/03/...tests-pending/

The week of the 20th I was seeing 5+ days for results from testing. Last week I saw 2-3 days. They are getting faster with the testing. (this doesn't apply to ICU pts where they seem to be prioritized and move faster from what I heard)

Common thought is we will peak in mid April (two weeks).. of course that could be better or worse depending on a host of factors.

At some point we need to reach a level of acceptable losses and get back to a functioning society.

After all, the seasonal flu killed what, 200 a day? And that was considered just business as usual. So for now stay home and don't screw it up so we can get out of this sooner rather than later.

The labs are probably just backlogged and at capacity.

This is great advice. A lot of people have made huge sacrifices and many businesses are never coming back from this. It would just add insult to injury if people rushed back to their previous lifestyle and made it all for nothing.

In my opinion, this will not peak in two weeks, I'm sorry but it won't. Even if you take statistics with a grain of salt the rising numbers show no signs of tapering off yet. A couple of days is not a trend.
There are a few existing drugs that may help in limited ways and are being considered. Even then it will take time to manufacture and distribute quantities of these drugs.
I understand that some are having a more difficult time than others but trying to rush this thing could do more harm that good in the long run.
