CDC Has Known Since 2005 Chloroquine Was Very Effective Against Coronavirus In Studie

We've been covering coronavirus outbreak since January after the deadly coronavirus started to make headlines here in the United States. Since the virus is still new to the United States, we spent some time to learn more about the virus from two major authoritative health organizatitons: World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control

I think that they are a reading a bit too much into this. SARS and MERS were not around that long and there really were not too many candidates for trials. How exactly would you one on SARS? Kind of hard to recruit when the people who get a placebo have a 10% chance of death. Would you have volunteered?

Should we have done more? I agree 100% that there were not many studies on what clearly is a problem today. Yes, more should have been done. For the last 20 years all of pharma companies have been about coming up with expensive drugs that you take for life. Not good business for treatments that are cheap and you only need once.

It's the same as not having enough masks, PPE, ventilators, etc. It was not a spending priority at the time. I think that we know better now.

This whole trial required thing is due to past experience. Not everything pans out when you do real trials. Unfortunately, we just don't have the luxury of time at the moment.

This isn't any kind of news or secret, why do you think doctors have been attempting to treat MERS cases with it? There's a whole list of drugs known to have some interaction with MERS and SARS (see link below), the problem is those studies are done with vero cells and petri dishes. What works in a living organism and what is safe to give to a human are far removed from that type of clinical research.

See Table 3 for a list of the drugs...
No specific antivirals are currently available for two emerging infectious diseases, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). A literature search was performed covering pathogenesis, clinical features and ...
