False sense of security by the public right now.

I'm at the dealership in the service department. Well, actually I'm sitting outside just watching other people drop their vehicles off while I wait for my wife to come pick me up.

When I dropped mine off the attendant who took it had on a mask and gloves. This same attendant I'm sure has worn those same gloves and that mask for every person he interacts with and every vehicle that he pulls back into the service area.

Those gloves come in contact with everything he has touched so far this morning I'm sure. I've been watching people as I sit here pick up their vehicles. At least three different people have picked up their vehicles and gone on their way from this same attendant wearing those same gloves. That tells me everything he's touched he has transferred to every door handle, stick shift, and steering wheel. Probably center console and dashboard of every vehicle he's just released as well.

Everybody who's driven away from here that I've seen get a vehicle is not wearing gloves and is not wiping anything down, they're getting in the car and pulling away.

so why are you getting the car serviced during this "lockdown"?
are you an essential worker and your car is broken?

While this is a good point, it doesn't discount what he witnessed. My car needs servicing ATM but I am staying inside. I thought about dropping it off but decided against it because of this very reason. Who knows if the guy at the front counter has been exposed or the mechanic, or myself for that matter. Just not worth the chance.

Well the dealership is open, and there are people employed who need the work for the business to stay open. I think our economy is taking enough of a hit right now.

I plan to clean the interior of my car when I get in.

I'm doing what I can to reduce my risk of exposure.

I don't live in a bubble, nor does anyone else that I know of.

The attendant is wearing gloves and a mask for his protection, not yours.
I carry disinfectant wipes and also hand sanitizer for such situations.

I don't go to dealers unless I have to. I have three cars and with the social distancing I really only need one functional. Heck I probably don't even need to go to a gas station for nearly a year if I don't go out other than the store.

I'd say, yes people are not doing social distancing right.

This why car washes are considered an essential service.

I get his logic but its flawed. It doesn't matter if he stays clean, if he is infecting others by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching clean surfaces with the same gloves. Its not just about keeping yourself safe but everyone you come into contact with. Frequent hand washing is the better course of action for himself and his customers.

Funny I was thinking this yesterday. I went to my grocery store hoping for a morning donut and to pick up some salad materials; encountered about 6 people wearing masks; noted that two of them had them hanging below their nose just over their mouth. Idjits

I highlighted the important part of the OP's statement:

The use of "I'm sure" is akin to "I'm guessing" which means the OP really does not know what he is saying is a fact or not, just reporting his "feeling" about the situation.

Now, that said, he's probably correct, same as the checker at the grocery store that handles every person in line groceries wearing the same gloves, which I can say is a fact because I saw it this morning, and it's a fact.

                      Exactly.

The attendant is protecting himself, while his gloves are accumilating everything he touches.

I already know that when I pick my truck up they will leave it in the lot so I can disinfect before I drive it away.

I only recently (since Tuesday) started wiping everything down and wearing gloves when I am away from home.

I will have scheduled service done soon. I will assume it will be contaminated regardless of what I see in terms of the businesses hygiene either good or bad. I will act on the assumption their hygiene is not good or had a process failure.

I plan to pick up the vehicle wearing gloves. Then when home will have the vehicle completely wiped and my clothes go into the washing machine.

I keep a 32oz spray bottle filled with 31 ounces of alcohol and 1 ounce of Lysol disinfectant spray that I liberally mist anything that is suspect with. Then everything is left to dry naturally.

I intend to completely saturate my cab and let it dry before I leave.

I got new tires for one our cars on Wed:
                            - The car needed new tires. Greater chance of my kids crashing the car than catching the Wuhan Flu
                            - It's a great time to get service done, few crowds

Washing hands, using sanitizer... I'm good
