KNX 1070 news radio report claims he has changed his mind again and WILL CLOSE LA gun stores. He has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning for an announcement.

Update from KFI news ;He doesn't wanna violate anyone Second Amendment rights but he wants to restrict panic buying of guns in LA County.

Hopefully it'll be for his apology and subsequent resignation.

But we all know, that won't happen.

Yep too big an ego he's going to try and justify his actions. You must remember he's not a LEO anymore. Anybody who gets that or any Sheriff or Chief job in a big city is 1st and foremost a politician who is under the control of the county/city managers. He does not support the law only what his handlers tell him to do.
As a little Masonic history ALL LA County Sheriffs until Baca and this new one were Masons. Can't remember any of them going to jail or shutting down the Bill of Rights.

He doesn't have the authority - at the moment. However, note the portion I placed in bold...

...The county's stay-at-home order was crafted by the health department and Villanueva said he's working with the agency on new language...

County Counsel Mary Wickham could not immediately be reached Tuesday evening for more details on the opinion that the stores could remain open. The sheriff's department did not have further information on Villanueva's orders in light of the new information...
                Los Angeles County Counsel

The Office of the Los Angeles County Counsel provides legal advice to the Board of Supervisors, county departments and other county entities in the nation’s largest and most diverse county...
In other words, it may end up being a case where the existing order wasn't specific enough to allow his 'quest,' the County Counsel advised as such, and the Sheriff is... 'coaxing'... new, more specific language. If he gets the more specific language, he will have the authority; at least for a time, until it's challenged in Court and... I'm not confident we'll have the same luck as Pennsylvania.

                We'll have to see.

Who the hell is he to decide who can or can't buy something if they want? What sort of law gives him that authority?

I don't see him closing grocery stores because of the TP panic buying.

Gov. Gavin Newsom says state won't issue guidance on whether gun stores are essential businesses
California Gov. Gavin Newsom will not offer official guidance on whether gun stores can be classified as essential businesses and remain open during the state's shelter-in-place order.

Newsom was asked about the issue after Los Angeles County reversed course on a move to close gun stores amid the spread of coronavirus in the region and the county's shelter-in-place order. L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva initially ordered the closing of gun stores, but legal counsel for the county determined gun stores are essential businesses and must remain open. Villanueva then rescinded the order.

During his Wednesday press conference, Newsom was asked whether the state would issue an official guidance for localities to follow, but Newsom said no guidance would be coming.

"I belive in people's right to bear arms and I believe people are exercising that right," Newsom said of reports of increased sales at gun stores. "But I'll defer to the sheriff in this instance, and I'll defer to sheriffs in their respective jurisdictions for that clarification."

Why does he give a crap about "panic buying" when every buyer has to wait 10 days no matter what? Wasn't that the whole point of the 10-day wait?

The stores will figure out a way to transfer things out of county to finish the sale and turnover.
