CZU August Lightning Complex - San Mateo and Santa Cruz Co. fire

Anyone following this? We're in 95066. Boulder Creek apparently got the evac order.

I was up 3-4 AM last night feeding my 4 month old and could see a faint glow on the ridge west of us. I've seen a couple of choppers flying in the water buckets or retardent. Definitely smokier today than it's been all week.

Doesn't look too contained at the moment and that's f-ing concerning. Sweatin' balls here I admit.

Yep, plenty of Calgunners in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Keeping an eye on these old stomping grounds of mine before my flight to freedom in the PNW.

Stay alert my friend. Start packing irreplaceable items early in case evacuations become mandatory. Take photos around the house for insurance claims later if necessary. Leave early whenever possible. One way in - one way our for many in the San Lorenzo Valley.

I'm on the Westside, near the beach less than a mile from the evac zone. Got the old S&Ws and a few long guns bagged up. Packed up the silver coins, cash and legal docs. Hoping the rest of the safe contents don't end up testing the safe's fire rating of 75 min @1400F.

We live next to 17, just west of it near the Granite Creek exit. Our neighbor got the down low from a friend that we'd be evacuated soon, sure enough the warning happened yesterday and we packed & left. A couple hours later the official order came, but by then we were already out.

My in laws that live right next to 17 but on the east side bugged out before us because the smoke was too much for them.

Camera network to see what's going on. Go to the map and click on a camera and you see a view. You can also see a time lapse. The camera at Bonny Doon is toast.

Smoke from the Santa Cruz fire picked back up this late morning. Smoking is blowing down the streets in Almaden.

A fireman from another county, helping up in Bonny Doon, had his wallet stolen from out of his vehicle and his account cleaned out. Rumor is that his bank reimbursed him. Several other looters were caught in Boulder Creek.

So sorry for all effected, though here's an amazing story...

...a friend with a place off of Empire Grade in north Bonny Dune evac'd with short notice, and later heard from his later departing neighbors that his deck and property were ablaze, so he wrote his house off etc.

A couple of days later he snuck in to see what was up, and while his separate garage, woodshop, studio, and garden shed buildings had all burned along with a SUV in the driveway, his house was undamaged.

His is the only house on his street and the immediate neighboring streets to survive, amazing how these types of things happen with regards to forest fires!

I suspect as time goes on and more people get back in as well as those who stayed behind, will have more interesting stories to tell. I'm glad your friends house was spared.
