Disaster Info/Assistance Purpose

During each major disaster or crisis I see posts and threads about members who are involved, displaced or suffer losses.
One of the best things aboout Calguns has been the willingness of this community to take care of each other.

With the frequency of fires, possibility of quakes and even flooding as odd as it sounds here in California we are establishing a limited use sub-forum specifically for the unique disasters and crises we Californians experience.

A forum not only to post the latest news and updates on a situation or event but also a forum where Calgunners who are caught in these disasters and displaced or need help can post up asking for help.

With each event we will have a master update/info/discussion thread and then members will be able to post 'I need', 'I have available', 'I can offer' type threads where members can ask for help/assistance/shelter/etc. and other members can offer to help fulfil a need or contact another member offering what they need for the emergency.

Depending on the situation this forum can also serve to coordinate member efforts to assist in an emergency.

It is my hope that this forum can be left open and only used when a situation or event warrants it rather than having to be locked and only opened in case of an emergency.

If this turns in to 'OTv2.0' then we'll lock it down but I'm going to start out by believing it will be used as intended.

We're doing one thread per 'event' right?

Or is it okay to separate into several? For example:

xxxxx fire - lessons learned
xxxx fire - donations thread
xxxxx fire - official resources/Gov't assistance links

One master thread and then as members need or can offer help they can start their own threads so the offer or request won't get buried.
If that proves to be too busy or burdensome we can always adjust the process.

Okay, see here we're refining things.

'Lessons learned' can probably be part of the tail end of the 'xxxxx fire' master thread.

Donation/Gov Assist/Official Resources' can probably be a single thread for each event since they will mainly just be a list of links. We can sticky that thread during an event and then unstick when things go back to what passes for normal around here.

We're building this as a community effort by the community so if someone else has any ideas or input chime in!

This is a great idea. At times when people are in need, any resource available can be helpful.

Given that this has its own forum now, I think it would be beneficial to post a list of hospitals, shelters, or places to donate/volunteer. Maybe not a list of every single shelter in the state, but for each situation that arises we could compile all the info
