cheap Browning Gold Hunter - buy it?

A local Guy has a Browning Gold Hunter for sale.

    12 gauge, 1997 manufacture, 3" chamber.

Pretty rough - worn finish and gouges in the furniture, light surface rust on barrel, reciever, chamber - I'm sure this would clean up (non gun guy inherited it- prob hasn't kept it oiled) Some very light pitting on receiver, no extra chokes.

    Asking price $275

Not lookin for a pretty one, just functional. Don't have budget yet for a nicer semi auto, but could swing this one. Would use for hunting, blasting clays.

    What say you?

I guess a disassembly/examination would be prudent, huh? What to watch out for?

I would buy it at 250-275....250 if it only has the one choke tube

Check to see if the choke tube comes out or if it is seized...a funtion test is always good if you can take a few shots somewhere

personally I usually don't care what a firearm looks like unless it is affecting function, no safe Queen lover here.

the price seems good and it probably has low mileage so I would grab it if I were you. I mean that's the price of a new budget maverick / Mossberg pump if you want to go that route...

but I would try and disassemble it and maybe even take it out at a local range with him, due to conditions of the exterior and possibly the interior you want to check it out first.

Personally, I would jump all over that!

Shoot it at the range to make sure it works, give it a good visual once over and if it looks good and performs properly, I would buy it.

              Ok, I just bought it!

Went back to see it today, much better shape than I remembered. Furniture is in good shape, only a little surface rust. Didn't get a chance to shoot it. No extra chokes and he held at $275, which I think is a good deal. Plus, no tax on a PPT! I can't wait to show it off - 10 days and I'll post up some pics.

              Thanks for your input, team.

I have a Browning Gold I bought used....very lightly used. Can't remember what year it is but prob. a little newer than yours. Anyway, it's a great shotgun and you are going to be happy with that purchase!
