Opening a break-action and catching shells

Hold forearm in leading hand, open gun with shooting hand thumb, before shells eject place your hand over them and either catch or block and grab them.

Can't you just remove the springs or cut some coils off the springs? so it lifts the shells out when you break it open.

If you google citori extractor they show 1911 firing springs replacing the stock ejecting springs

You could, but why? It's easy to learn, and once you do you'll do it without even thinking about it.

Why catch them when you can grab shell from pouch then pull the emptys out and load at the same time.

You pop them straight up in the air and catch them in your shell pouch without looking. Duh.

Then suck some gunsmoke out of the chambers and blow it into the face of your competitors.

almost what i do. i guess i gotta squeeze it more at the stock. it seems like when i "pull" down using the left hand to open the action, it wants to twist because i don't have the stock secured enough. thanks for the vids!

haha.. well, i have to make sure the trigger area doesn't hit the small plank that's like a table because we're shooting 5-stand right now. they give us the width of maybe 5" as a small table to put the box of shells on. (no need for a bag right now for 5-stand).

i saw someone sunday that did it slightly. Same on everything but when he broke the action, he actually grabbed it by the side like a claw (think of the motion martial arts tiger style) and that's how he opened the action. i tried it and it seems to work better than pulling it down from the forearm. the firearm doesn't want to want to "twist" using the "claw". LOL

at least it's cold so far i don't have to worry about the barrel heat doing it this way.

Thanks ysr_racer. I thought the thread was dead as I didn't see anything else for a few days and didn't subscribe.

I did doubles last week. Man, that barrel got hot pretty quick! made it a little slower opening the action.

I'll try your method more explicitly this weekend instead of the "claw" grip that I use.

Its not easy when your guns new and tight,, or hard to open ... I' ve had to push down on the top of the barrels on a few o/u's to open them.. Not fun for the first 1k rounds.. Be sure to grease your hinge pin each day you shoot ,,, and clean the old grease off when done .. I like Rig grease... After about 1.5k rounds your gun will open easier ,,, citoris anyway ...
