    Saiga 12 question?

I am currently interested in purchasing a Shotgun. I am very much considering a Remington 870. But the Saiga 12 seems to be very attractive.
My local gun store said it should be okay to bring them into the state because of it's two point being semi-auto and detachable magazine. I know this was probably mentioned in the rifle forum, but I reply on your expert shotgunner's opinion.

    So:
,is it legal in California, if not why?
,and is it worth the investment?

it is legal but you have to fix the magazine and then cant have any more then 2 evil features, and id say it would probably worth the investment in the event that there is another ban or these get made into DD's, either way people will be scrambling to buy them.

there are some fairly recent threads in the shotgun forum about a company (HDI) that offers a ca legal version

Get the mag locked in place and you're good to go - there are some conversions out there, add pistol grip, move trigger forward, ect.

As far as my knowledge, it only has two "evil" points. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

          Semi auto shotgun with both:
          pistol grip
          collapsible stock
          is an assault weapon.

Semi auto shotgun with a det. mag. is an AW.

There are also specifically listed shotguns as AW's.
          SPAS 12
          LAW 12

Something about a rotarty mag also...

A shotgun is a heck of a lot more fun with ten-round mags.

I'd say go with the S12 now, they aren't going to get any cheaper.

I picked up one December '07 for $425 plus $100 for the bullet button & shipping. The next one I got in May '08 went for $525 plus another $75.00 for the bullet button installation and shipping. Fast forward another five months, and they seem to be going for $750-$850 now (with the bullet button & shipping).

I think a more appropriate price comparison would be between S12's and an 11-87 or other semi-auto shotgun. Then, the price difference isn't too much of a factor since they're all probably in the $650-850 price range.

Those don't have ten-round mags (or 20-round drums if you live in the free states!)

You can always pick up an 870 a year from now, will you be able to still do that with a Saiga?
