Looking for my first shotgun!!??

I'm looking to get my first shotgun but I have no idea what I'm looking for,I know it'll be 12 gauge and a pump, I've checked out the Winchester sxp 28" barrel since some family members want to Bird hunt and that sounds pretty fun!! And advice would be greatly appreciated on the Winchester and any other brands!!

Mossberg 500 deals at Big 5 are a good deal. Longer barrel with fixed modified choke and a shorter barrel for home defense. They go on sale for around $300 at least twice a year.

I've seen those plenty of times but I'm not a big fan of Mossberg but it's a great deal, you get two barrels and they make allot of aftermarket parts for it!!

What to look for

Something with removable choke tubes and 26" or longer barrel.
Something with field stocks and bead sight....pass on pistol grips and combat sights

Feels good in your hands....grips well, reach the trigger, easy to pump

If you understand fit.....a shotgun that fits you well will put a lot more shots on target than one that you have to fudge with to get a good sight picture.

Guns: the Win, Rem Wingmaster, Benelli nove or Supernova, Browning BPS, mossbergs.

Try some of your friends and family's guns, rent some at a range ....see what you like...then the choice becomes easier.

What's your budget? You can grab a beretta auto A300 for a decent price or maybe even a used auto at a decent price. Pumps are great but an auto makes follow up shots a lot easier.

Start with a pump!!! A pump forces you to focus in between each shot. If you start with a semi, you will most likely develop bad habits.

Yup my mossberg 500 is the best...my first firearm and I won't ever let it go because it is so reliable....not to mention how many companies manufacture parts for the 500...you can pretty much set it up the way you want!...

The "which pump shotgun should I buy," question comes up weekly. And the answer on this and every other forum out there is always the same...Remington 870 or Mossberg. You can flip a coin or choose which one you like better based on the position of the safety.

And sure, there's always a few other options thrown into the mix...Benelli, Winchester, etc. But Remington and Mossberg always come up as the top two choices.

Mossburg 500 or Remington 870 would be my recommendation!
I'd stay far away from the Winchester as I could as the current rendition is a "made in Turkey" product.
At least with the 500 or 870, your getting an American made shotgun.
