Best slugs for bear protection?

Likely going jeep camping in the mountains of northern cali with a few friends next week, in the quite unlikely hypothetical situation where I needed to use the 12ga to defend against a bear near the campsite, what would be the ideal ammo?

I was thinking pretty much any slug would be good, thoughts?

Keep in mind that not all slugs are compatible with all barrels. Some require a rifled barrel or at least choke tube, while others are fine in a smooth-bore. Some HD barrels aren't rated for slugs as they are choked tighter then cylinder-bore as well.
