    Mossy500 barrel question

    Hi,
What to watch for when buying an additional barrel for a Mossberg 500 12ga shotgun? Will any 12 ga Mossberg barrel fit, whether riffled or smoothbore, 18.5" or 26"?

And can a vent rib barrel be replaced by a plain one?

What do you plan on use your mossy for? HD, busting clays or hunting?

I would just like to know what are the "freedoms" and "barriers" when looking for replacement barrels... in case I will need one.

AFAIK, all 5+1 barrels are interchangable.
There are several versions of the 7+1 and 8+1 models where the barrels do not fully intx.
5+1 for everything, 7/8+1 for tacticool.

I think it all depends when your mossy was made. I believe the older ones can take any barrel even the Maverick 88 barrels. Newer ones I think are more picky. Have you looked at the Mossberg website for the info you seek.

What I look for in Mossy 500 barrels are ones that already have the accu-choke tube system.

FYI accu mag choke tubes are for the mossy 835/935. I am not sure what the 930's take.

It has to match your magazine length/capacity since the lug has the fit on the end of it.

Ok, thanks. I have an older Mossy500 12ga with fixed MOD choke, vent rib. No magazine ext, nothing fancy... could I even switch to a plain barrel (i.e. no vent rib)?

                  Most likely so.

Most valuable info... thank you very much. Since the Federal Reserve is above the Government, don't think that "Obama or McCain" will change a thing...

Yes. I have both a plain barrel and one with a vent rib for my older Mossberg 500 in 12 ga. No issue there.

                        Thanks a lot.
In the meantime I've bought a 20" vent rib barrel with AccuChokes, fits perfectly, looks naaasty
