    Choke Tube Question

Gun is a ATI SX-2 28" barrel semi auto. The gun comes with 3 chokes. I have no clue which is which. According to Don and Richard the choke in the gun today was Modified, apparently exactly what I didn't want for Skeet. This choke has *** star designation. The other two chokes in the kit have * star and what appears to be the widest aperture has ***** stars.

So my question is does anyone understand this coding. The manual (sheet of paper doesn't identify them). It supposedly has Full, Modified and Skeet. Not sure which is which, other than the 3 star *** appears to be the Modified.

    1 Star *
    3 Star ***
    5 Star *****

Beyond identification, there is the question of when and why you use Full, and Modified? Skeet seems self explanatory.

    Thanks for the help.

I've been trying to figure out what chokes your gun takes, I can not find any specific information for an ATI. As we found out it's not Beretta Mobil, or Browning Invector Plus.
Beretta, Benelli, Remington, Browning...etc show either 3 stars or notches as a MOD. So I would bet that is what you had in your gun today.
THIS may help, but again, it does not list ATI specifically...

Would Cylinder be equivalent to Skeet than? I am thinking the 5 Star is the right tube.

It's "slightly" more open than skeet.

Cylinder would be fine for Skeet.

Choke designations are based on the amount of constriction from the guns bore.

            CYL .000"
            SKT .005"
            IMP CYL .010"
            LT MOD .015"
            MOD .020"
            IMP MOD .025"
            FULL .030"

These numbers may vary a bit from maker to maker, but they are pretty close.

I believe the chokes are Huglu pattern, I have been told the ones on my Escort are, so since its also a Turkish gun I would suspect the ATI chokes are as well.

Wasn't able to find much on the choke thread type, but the TACPX2 & TACSX2 shotuns are manufactured in Turkey by Ottoman Guns.

                Generally***:

Skeet - Cylinder, Skeet, Improved Cylinder

Sporting Clays - Improved Cylinder, Light Mod, Modified

                Trap - Modified, Full

Nope, we tried the chokes from my CZ(Huglu made) not a match. The tubes for my CZ are Beretta/Benelli Mobil. There 20ga are different.

Looks like a Remington choke, threads may be different.

Forgive the dumb question but why the differences for the different type of clay games?

Distance to the target, the longer the shot, the tighter the choke.

I wanted to follow up on the choke issue. I contacted ATI on 01/01/15, and received an answer 01/02/15. The choke marked ***** (5) stars is Cylinder, and is what I would use for Skeet, unless I want to spend $19.95 and purchase a .005 constricted Skeet choke.

The chokes for the ATI come in 2 varieties. My SX2 Combo semi auto uses a Remington Choke. The Calvary model (Tactical style) uses a Bernelli / Beretta choke.

Apparently this information should have been in my box, but as mine was used as the display model, was likely lost.

I can't say enough how impressed with how fast, professional and caring the service has been from ATI. You would think I had paid a lot more for this gun than I did.
