    ATI SX2-Combo Review

Earlier this year another Calguner Neanderthal posted his review of the ATI SX-2 18.5" barrel. He was very happy with the gun. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...hlight=ATI+SX2

I purchased the combo, a floor model from Big 5 for as I recall $421 out the door DROS. Mine is the SX-2 Semi Auto 5+1, with both the 18.5" barrel, and the 28" barrel.

I put 5 round through the gun with the 18.5" barrel the day after I bought it and if jammed on the next 5 rounds repeatedly and then would not allow itself to be loaded. I called ATI they sent me a free shipping label and off it went to South Carolina. 3 weeks later it came back and shot like a champ.

I had to wait to try the 28" barrel and see how the gun would do at either Trap or Skeet. I signed up for Don's skeet clinic and waited. Well today was the day. The clinic was wonderful, and the ATI got a work out. So how did it do. In a word great No failures to feed, little to no recoil with the Remington Target loads, 2 3/4" 1 1/8th oz, #7 1/2 shot, at 1145 fps. I shot 2.5 boxes and my shoulder feels fine. The recoil pad it really nice.

Performance wise I didn't break many clays with it, but that was my fault for leaving the chokes at home. I had a modified cylinder in the gun and that made my task a lot harder than it had to be. I broke a few, with it. When the guys that were there loaned me their guns I was able to score several hits. The value of the right choke was proven beyond a doubt.

As mentioned there was negligible recoil. The size and fit for very good for me. The gun cycled beautifully, without a fault. Swing weight seemed perfect, In all I couldn't speak more highly of the gun itself. Remember however this is my first time shooting a shotgun at clays.

There are no questions I would love to have the over unders I shot today, both to shoot and as works of art, but I am completely happy with my ATI SX-2 at this point. Skeet seems like a sport I could get addicted too. The cost of instruction through Calguns is dirt cheap, and playing the game is relatively inexpensive.

The ATI SX-2 allows me to have my own shotgun when we run a shotgun scenario at the On-Target Saturday Shoots, IDPA type Thursday matches at Iron Sights or just for home defense. The 28" barrel allows me to play the clay games, and hunt if I choose. I think it's $400 well spent. I can testify the service department was wonderful. They replaced the trigger group and got my gun back to me quickly with no hassels, no problems and a lot of communication during and after.

    Good gun, would buy again.

Trap is fun,one time shot skeet was a pita. Ati & the like have some good looking shotguns for the price but not knowing the brand is a toss up. Good deal on the service

Nice review, glad the service was swift and effective.

Modded mine for the better. Added grip tape to the fore end and to the hand grip behind the trigger. Very tacky, when woken up at 3:00am the other night by persons trying to get in my front door, the grip tape felt fantastic. No fumbling just sure that what ever it was, was in deep doodoo, because I had it in control. The plastic stock is slick, much improved control with grip tape.

Glad ATI is on the ball. Maybe they can get us some scope mounts, extended mag, spare barrel and chokes and sling mounts yet?

I wanted to follow up on the choke issue. I contacted ATI on 01/01/15, and received an answer 01/02/15. The choke marked ***** (5) stars is Cylinder, and is what I would use for Skeet, unless I want to spend $19.95 and purchase a .005 constricted Skeet choke.

The chokes for the ATI come in 2 varieties. My SX2 Combo semi auto uses a Remington Choke. The Calvary model (Tactical style) uses a Bernelli / Beretta choke.

Apparently this information should have been in my box, but as mine was used as the display model, was likely lost.

I can't say enough how impressed with how fast, professional and caring the service has been from ATI. You would think I had paid a lot more for this gun than I did.

ATI got back to me and cleared my confusion on what chokes the TAC takes. My SX-2 uses Remington Chokes. Very affordable, turns out to be $16.95 each.

I did forget to mention that the finish is a bit on the soft side, and scratches easily. Got a couple of scratches on the barrel, just from general handling. That isn't a problem for me, as close friend does firearms restoration and refinishing is actually something he enjoys doing.

All things considered I think I have a good value. Only time and shells shot will tell if that is true.
