Earlier this year another Calguner Neanderthal posted his review of the ATI SX-2 18.5" barrel. He was very happy with the gun. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...hlight=ATI+SX2
I purchased the combo, a floor model from Big 5 for as I recall $421 out the door DROS. Mine is the SX-2 Semi Auto 5+1, with both the 18.5" barrel, and the 28" barrel.
I put 5 round through the gun with the 18.5" barrel the day after I bought it and if jammed on the next 5 rounds repeatedly and then would not allow itself to be loaded. I called ATI they sent me a free shipping label and off it went to South Carolina. 3 weeks later it came back and shot like a champ.
I had to wait to try the 28" barrel and see how the gun would do at either Trap or Skeet. I signed up for Don's skeet clinic and waited. Well today was the day. The clinic was wonderful, and the ATI got a work out. So how did it do. In a word great No failures to feed, little to no recoil with the Remington Target loads, 2 3/4" 1 1/8th oz, #7 1/2 shot, at 1145 fps. I shot 2.5 boxes and my shoulder feels fine. The recoil pad it really nice.
Performance wise I didn't break many clays with it, but that was my fault for leaving the chokes at home. I had a modified cylinder in the gun and that made my task a lot harder than it had to be. I broke a few, with it. When the guys that were there loaned me their guns I was able to score several hits. The value of the right choke was proven beyond a doubt.
As mentioned there was negligible recoil. The size and fit for very good for me. The gun cycled beautifully, without a fault. Swing weight seemed perfect, In all I couldn't speak more highly of the gun itself. Remember however this is my first time shooting a shotgun at clays.
There are no questions I would love to have the over unders I shot today, both to shoot and as works of art, but I am completely happy with my ATI SX-2 at this point. Skeet seems like a sport I could get addicted too. The cost of instruction through Calguns is dirt cheap, and playing the game is relatively inexpensive.
The ATI SX-2 allows me to have my own shotgun when we run a shotgun scenario at the On-Target Saturday Shoots, IDPA type Thursday matches at Iron Sights or just for home defense. The 28" barrel allows me to play the clay games, and hunt if I choose. I think it's $400 well spent. I can testify the service department was wonderful. They replaced the trigger group and got my gun back to me quickly with no hassels, no problems and a lot of communication during and after.
Good gun, would buy again.
