    870 problem (Neighbors gun)

So I was over at my neighbors house in his garage over the weekend talking about duck hunting cause I've never been hunting so naturally all forms interest me...ne way...
He said he is having trouble with his 870. Apparently every time he pulls the trigger and fires a pin shoots out of it.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if its just him. I'm about to go over and ask him more about it....but was hoping I could go with a few questions....who knows I might get a new CGN member outta it all....

just talked to him, he said it comes out of the trigger mechanisum area. Its like half an inch long and about as thick as a number 2 pencil he says and there are two of them....I'm not sure if its on the reciever or the trigger guard area...but I found some google photos and added them. Apparently he can fire a few times before it loosens up and falls out..."shoots out" he said prolly wasn't the best way to describe it. He also says he cleaned it really good one time and it seems to have started around then....I think he got oil into a place it shouldn't have been....but I don't know anything about the 870. Any suggestions for a fix?? thats all the info I got till the weekend....I just feel bad cause its his duck gun and season starts soon and I wanna be helpful.

Make sure the pins are centered correctly. There are detents in the trigger group that hold the pins in place. Pop the two pins out and inspect. Slide the pins in and make sure they "click" into place. The trigger group comes out as an entire unit. You don't have to worry about springs or "things" flying out. If stuff does fly out you have bigger problems with the gun.

www.brownells.com has a IPB Illustrated Parts Brakedown for many makes of firearms.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

The parts that hold the pins(trigger plate pins) in place are the "trigger plate pin detent springs", two sizes(front and rear). Should be available from your local gunsmith.

If he ever took it apart to clean it, chances are he lost the detent springs that hold the receiver pins in place. Those should be available from Remington for next to free if he calls customer service.

Edit: Swifty beat me to it.
