It's over - shot trap for the first time

Picked my Versa Max out of jail yesterday and headed to the range right after work to meet up with some friends. First shotgun I've owned and also first one I've shot in a years.

I'm hooked. I have another case of 12 ga ordered. Ordered a new vest, cleaning kit and range bag. Now I'm wondering what different chokes/loads would do and looking into reloading equipment (already reload handgun).

I'll be filing for bankruptcy soon I'm sure. I think I had more fun with my first time trap shooting that I've ever had with any of my rifles/pistols.

I was too focused on shooting to keep track, but I think my best run was ~17/25. It wasn't until afterwards that I was relayed the ingenious idea of keeping hulls from misses to count. There's something irksome about the clay that falls to the ground unshattered that just begs you do shoot more and get better.

      ><

      Welcome to the games.

I will advise to hold off on the reloading, 12ga shells bought on sale are going to be at the same cost or very close,if not cheaper then reloading....unless you looking for that "I can't buy that load for the price of reloading " its not worth the effort of buiyng componets and time reloading

Cabels's recently had Herters 12ga for 55.00 a case with 20.00 off and free shipping....came to 180.00 for 4 cases delivered to my door...$4.50 a box!

Yeah, didn't seem like ROI was QUITE there as you indicate. I got case of Winchester Super Target from Cabelas for 62.99 delivered. I ordered another case yesterday for 63.95 delivered (different coupon code).

For singles and short yardage handicap, 1 oz. loads are just fine. Some guys even shoot 1 oz. for long yardage handicap. I personally prefer 1 oz. loads for prolonged shooting, but to be honest, I just shoot whatever I find for cheap. There's always a small chance that the extra shot in the 1.125 oz. load could break a chip off of the target. Regardless of which load you choose, if you're on - you're on.

I totally took advantage of this too. Won't have to buy shotgun shells for at least 6 months.

I enjoy trap a lot. Nonstatic targets keep me sharp.

                        You should try sporting clays.

Is it worth it to reload shot shells? A bulk box of 100 at WallyWorld is $25 ish. What's it cost to load your own? I know nothing about these things so was just curious.

Not looking like it's cost effective now that I'm doing the math.
