Shotgun Laws

Can anyone point me to where I can find all the laws regarding shotguns in california? Im wondering about barrel length, pistol grips, stock, and stuff like that. I'd imagine it may be different from pumps to semis. Thanks!

It's not that complicated. As long as your shotgun barrel is at least 18 inches and does not fall under the Assault Weapons characteristics (semi-auto scatterguns), you're fine. Shotguns also have unrestrictive transportation regulations. As long as it's not loaded.

Just to clarify, in addition to the 18" barrel length there is a 26" overall length requirement. These are Federal laws. On the bright side, most of the big name shotguns seem to be designed so that if you have an 18" barrel, the OAL will be above 26" no matter what stock you put on it.

The following are banned in California:

Franchi SPAS 12 and LAW 12.

Striker 12.

The Streetsweeper type S/S Inc. SS/12.

Saiga

A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.

Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

That's pretty much it.
