Cleaning the Gauge

I just cleaned my Beretta A400 today (used for clays) for the first time other than when i first brought it home. Not sure how many shells I have shot in it since then..at least 1K. It was dirty but nowhere near as bad as I thought. The Piston had some hard deposits that needed some scrubbing (Brass brush) but all shiny now. Btw, I use Hoppe's in my long arms.

Got me thinking, how many shells on average do you shoot before you clean yours?
What's the longest you have gone before it "needed to get done" or it failed due to fouling?

No doubt the Beretta could have gone on (much) longer with probably no problems but I wanted to see what it looked like.

your manual should give a maintenance schedule. i usually run a bore snake through after every trip and deep clean the gas system every 300 to 500 rounds. I know that there are a lot of people who don't like bore snakes, IMO, i would rather clean my gun more frequently with a snake then less with the brushes and patches.

I had an 870 that i never cleaned when i was young and stupid that did have a failure to feed because it was so foulled.
