Saiga 12 with mag lock? Why?

My father in law bought a Saga 12 like this http://www.turners.com/izhmash/izhma...-barrel-230064

Does it need the magazine lock? Or can we take it off? If not, what needs to be done to it?

Negative Ghost rider-It comes with one (a mag lock) stock and you gotta keep it in CA.

Are there just different rules for shotgun? Forgive my ignorance on this. I just started understanding the rules for rifles.

Click on the "shotgun ban ID flowchart" link at the top of the page.

To answer your question: yes. There are different rules for shotguns. There's no way that I'm aware of in this state to legally buy a semi auto shotgun that's got a detachable magazine.

I'm just learning about them, but would a properly NFA registered/tax stamped semi auto AOW need a mag lock?

Yes, maglock will still be required.
AOW are not exempt from CA assault weapons laws.
