    Stockless pistol grip comparison

Today I finally got to take my two stockless shotguns out to shoot. One has a Shockwave technologies Raptor grip, the other a Knoxx Breachers grip

The raptor was on a Mossberg 500 cruiser and the Breachersgrip was on a Mav 88.

We shot 25 shells of 7 1/2 shot, 15 shells of Federal LE 00 Buck and 5 shells of Federal LE slugs. So not a super thorough, endurance test or anything. Just our gut reactions to a few shots at a time.

First comparison - Recoil: So I decided to shoot the breachersgrip first. It handles the recoil of 12gauge pretty nicely. With the bird shot, it didn't bother me one bit. When we advanced to slugs and 00 Buck, it did start to make my palm tingle a little after the shot. But nothing crippling or painful, just mild discomfort.

After that we tried the Raptor. Holding it is awkward at first, but if you are used to bolt actions or Saiga sporters its a familiar feeling. However, it really shines when you shoot. I didn't notice much difference with the bird shot but with the 00buck it became very apparent and with the slugs it was like day and night. Way less recoil than the breachersgrip! Raptor wins this comparison.

Next comparison - Comfort: Personally, I find the pistol grip of the breachers grip more comfortable/handy when just carrying the shotgun around, but once 'shouldered' the breachersgrip isn't as nice as a pistol grip on say an AR or AK. its bigger and wider which makes it a PITA to active the slide release. You literally have to tilt the gun and then rotate your hand just to get your thumb on the release. Not cool

Now the raptor. The raptor is short, smooth handle at the end of the receiver and it isn't as easy to carry around as a pistol gripped weapon IMO. The raptor is made out of plastic just like the breachesgrip but it is perfectly shaped to allow your thumb to rest on top when 'shouldered'. On top of that, you can easily reach the slide release with your middle finger right underneath the trigger assembly without having to move your hand or rotate the gun. Clear winner in this comparison!

Third Comparison - Looks: I have to give the looks to the breachergrip hands down. That thing just looks tough and serious. However, there is a spartan simplicity to the raptor that I really appreciate too.

Fourth Comparison - Ease of installation: I installed both of them in less than 5 minutes without any trouble. I cant really compare them. Just remove the original stock, place new stock in its place and insert screw. They both were that easy. No winner here

Fifth Comparison - Adaptability: I couldn't think of where else to list this, but the breachers grip has a small sling attachment loop right at the end that faces the rear. The Raptor does not have anything you can attach a sling to. You can drill and then install your own but thats extra $ and time. Breachersgrip wins this category.

Last Comparison - Cost: The Raptor is the clear winner here. It costs just under half of what the breachersgrip goes for.

Overall, I believe the Raptor to be far better than the Breachersgrip. I will be replacing it with a second Raptor once I get rid of it. The Breachersgrip looks cool and has a sling attachment, but those aren't worth twice the cost and in the functional categories, the Raptor spanked the Breachersgrip.

The only scenario where I can see the Breachersgrip being more useful than the Raptor is maybe for motorcycle cops. I bought my Mav 88 to be my cheapo truck gun in case of Rodney King type craziness. If Im on the highway and I need to get it loaded and ready in the car before I exit the vehicle, I figured the shorter the better. Im not planning on taking bucks at 100 meters or doing anything remotely long distance. This is for 25yards or less and within that range, they both aimed pretty intuitively and worked great. I just think the Raptor was more great

Edit: I just looked at the Breachergrip on amazon to see what I should sell mine for and I noticed I was wrong in the cost comparison. The price is now almost 3 times the cost of a raptor! I got mine for about $60. They are now going for $76!

Thought Id update, I bought 3 Shockwave Raptor grips for mossberg style shotguns for about $98 (that is the price with shipping factored in). One is to replace the breachersgrip and 2 are extras for future shotgun purchases.

I just sold my Breachersgrip for $54 + $5.49 shipping on amazon. After Amazon fees and shipping I should be clearing $49.78 according to the amazon sale order I just got. Not bad.

Another confirmation for the Shokwave Tech. Raptor. Good to know.
I picked one up for my old Moss500 that I converted into another HD shotgun. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but I know it will be good due to the reviews.
Attaching a sling swivel is something I've thought about but haven't acted on yet.
