Shotgun shell carrier recommend for a noob

Hey guys. I started taking some self-defense oriented firearms training this year -- pistol, carbine, shotgun. I'm realizing I need more efficient support gear starting with shotgun shell carriers which I would hang on a duty-style or 3-gun-style belt. I don't have the dexterity to do speed loading yet; it's more a matter of convenience. What shell carriers do you recommend? Do they all work the same way, or are some easier to load/unload. From a couple vids I've seen, it looks like a pain to have to tilt the shells to get them into the carrier, then fiddle with the spring steel retainer to get the last shell past it into the carrier. Am I overstating how difficult that looks? Hey, thanks for your advice!

If you're talking about the shell caddies, then yes, it takes a lot of practice before you can comfortably load from them. And when I say 'comfortable', a decent par time is to load 8 shells in 8 seconds.
In a shotgun class, you'll spend most of your time loading from the side saddle, which is even slower than loading from caddies.
For 3-gun, a few folks still use caddies but the majority have now moved to some type of Load 2 or Load 4 getup.
    Shotguns are so needy!

If you're going self defense/tactical oriented, go get a velcro side saddle carrier and a bunch of velcro shell cards.
This is one example (first google hit, no personal experience): http://www.skdtac.com/Esstac-Shotgun-Card-p/ess.106.htm

The velcro allows you to quickly refill your side saddle by just grabbing a new card and throwing it on. You could have 5 or 10 of these in a dump pouch with extra, loose shells in the bottom. This allows you to have a full side saddle quickly and you can reload the empty panels in the down time between drills.
