Benelli nova bolt movement after shot

So I went shooting clays today with my Benelli nova and I noticed that after I shoot the bolt moves halfway back and exposes the shell. It happens without me working the pump but I did notice the release lever gets depressed afterwards. Can anyone help me out with this? I want to get this problem fixed. Oh and just for informations sake I did take it apart to clean it last night and I've put around 600 rounds through it. Thanks for any help.

Eh, not to be an ***, but you're sure you're not working the pump?
For most people, the act of firing a pump shotgun practically requires that they put a little backwards pressure on the fore end with their left (usually) hand. Once the trigger breaks the fore end comes back a little bit, thus moving the bolt back.

Otherwise, I can't think of a single reason that the bolt could move back without the fore end moving back. The bolt carrier is physically captured on the action bars by the way the action bars and bolt carrier are shaped.

While I'm not intimately familiar with how the release works, it seems implausible that the release would be actuating itself, though I suppose not impossible.

I tried dry firing it one handed and the bolt still moves backwards to about 1/4-1/2 open. I also noticed without my hand on the pump when I dry fire the whole pump moves backwards without any force. I'm thinking maybe the action bars aren't secured to the bolt properly? I'm not sure. I'm mainly worried about the safety issue of the bolt moving back on it's own. Has anyone else had this problem on any of their shotguns?

this is normal, even with some other guns.

Just tried it on a fully functional Benelli Nova, bolt and fore-end move back after the hammer drops. Ergo, totally normal.

Ok thanks. Maybe I just didn't notice it before or I finally got the gun fully broken in. I was mainly just worried about safety but I'm glad to know this is normal.

Thanx for posting this. I just noticed my nova stainless was doing this and thought I broke it somehow.
