    Trap shooting at Metcalf

Wife and I normally shoot trap at Coyote Valley, we like it there because it is pretty cheap ($6 a round for members) and it is usually not very busy and we frequently have the field to ourselves.

However, she is starting work this week and has to work weekends, so I'll have to look for some other places to shoot trap at because the Coyote Valley trap field uses a 6 sec delay button if you shoot alone, which isn't very fun. I've been to Sunnyvale Rod & Gun before, and their price is pretty good (also $6 a round if I recall correctly), but they're very busy.

I want to check if anyone here shoots trap at Metcalf? I've been thinking of shooting there instead. Is it very busy? Thanks.

I do on occasion, and yeah, it can get busy but runs pretty quick.

Thanks, I noticed that their winter hours on weekends are 12pm to 4pm. How many rounds do you think I can shoot within the 4 hour? I'm hoping the wait time wont' be too long, and from the sound of it their round goes by pretty quick.

Depends on traffic and experience. Newer shooters take longer.

I shoot skeet league there on Monday evenings, but I had to shoot a reserve last weekend and I walked right on. Not as busy as rifle/pistol side.

$8 for "public" and $6 for league members.

Curious, why a 6 sec delay for solo?

Been a while since I shot there, so it's hard for me to say. So far as I've seen it's not any different shooting there than it is anywhere else other than the staff helping people move along quickly and safely.

That's because the trap field at Coyote Valley doesn't have a voice activated system, or a staff member there to launch the clay for you. They have this press button thing that you'll have to have someone press when you call your bird, or, if you're shooting by yourself, you turn on the 6 sec delay so you basically press the button, mount your gun and wait for the bird.

Thanks, I've noticed that too when I shoot pistol and rifles there. Not too many people shoot their electric trap. The main problem with Los Altos is cost, there's a entry fee of $17 on weekends, so if you shoot only trap, it gets expensive.

Still, not a bad option if I want to do rifles, pistols and shotgun all within the same day.

Last time I shot at Metcalf they had someone who's job was to "Pull"; and he kept score. Nice place. Remember how it was to be young and broke?--tip the young person pulling for you.

Oh I see, didn't know they didn't have the voice activated one
