Mossberg 500 Silver Combo $309 or......

Big 5 currently has the Mossberg 500 Silver Combo - 18.5" barrel and 28" barrel pump action shotgun on sale for $309

Or the 8-shot 20" security shotgun for the more HD minded.

Nice thing about the Mossberg 500 vs. their Maverick combo are all the aftermarket tactical goodies for the 500.

The Mossberg aftermarket 'goodies' fit the Mavericks as well. They use a lot of the same parts and have the same physics, size/dimensions for the most part. The stocks and forends for a 500 will fit onto a Maverick, but you need a new action tube on the Maverick since it uses a 1-piece forend.... so do the Big 5 Mossberg 500 combos, they also use a 1-piece forend so if you want to swap it out, you'll need to buy the same parts needed as if you had the Maverick.

As for which one you should get, it depends on what you want out of it. If it's strictly for HD, then the 20" model that holds 8+1 is convenient since you'll have more capacity. If you think you'll want to shoot clays or hunt, or if you're content with only having 5+1 shells in the 500 (since you can't add a mag extension tube on that model), then the combo will give you more versatility.

It really depends on what your goal or plans are with the shotgun.

I chose the mossberg last week. It was lighter, more accessories available than the less expensive nickel plated shotgun Rock Island 20 in, 12 GA

I have both and I like the combo much better. The 18.5 is feels much better in my hands shooting at a indoor range(not as bulky feeling) and the 28 is good for sporting clays. May I suggest the 500 combo with a choke set not the accu choke system. If u want the 20 inch barrel get a Mossberg maverick 88 on sale at big 5 for 200. The 18.5 feels much better sweeping a room smaller and less bulky, I never bring my 20inch 7+1 out of my safe.

I originally bought the mossberg 500 with 20" barrel. I found it to be longer then I would prefer for a HD gun and it was a bit nose heavy when the mag tube was fully loaded. So I converted to a 5+1 with 18.5". I would suggest the 18.5" barrel. Like sdm44 said... If you get the combo you also get a one piece forend which makes it more expensive to change out the forend to add a light or whatever. If you are not into all that then go for the combo set. Can't beat the 2 for 1 deal.
