    Model 37 Deer Slayer

Does anyone know which rings fit the mounts on the barrel of a Model 37 Deer Slayer?

No, a scope mounted to the receiver is not as accurate as a mount on the barrel which is why there are Cantilever slug barrels. The customer does not want a receiver mounted scope. The model 37 has a rear site base that is set up for Rings. I read that it is set up for Redfield scop rings but I know very little about those so I am hoping someone with the same set up can point me to the correct rings no matter the brand.

Aippi....if you can post a pic I would have a better shot at it....otherwise, it would be a guess and I would guess Leupold dove tail rings

identified.. but good luck finding a pair..

don't know the age of the gun you're working with but might give the new Ithaca Gun Company a shot at it..
they may still have the ring mount data for those old barrels in their archives if they were transferred..
          circa 1960's-ish?

I saw that old ad on Chuck Hawks that says Redfield mounts..

          probably these

4th post in this thread from claypigeon confirms Redfield p/n 551001
Recommendations for scope rings and scope for M37

be mentions a special mod for this barrel..
I started out years ago with the barrel mounted scope. As stated previously, you will need a long eye relief scope. I have a set of Redfield mounts for the 37 in the box(part no. 551001), which are available. They have been modified with a pin added on one mount to insert into a small hole drilled into the barrel mount surface to prevent fore/aft movement, as the dovetail design leaves a lot to be desired with the heavy recoil of a slug. I then went to a receiver mount which allows much more selection of scopes. Only got gashed in the nose once so far with the closer scope. This was all back before the cantilever idea for shotgun barrels. With the 37 barrel interlock to the receiver, this mount is very accurate. I would never try it on a Remington or other shotgun with non-repeatable match up of barrel and receiver. If you want to use the 37 for other purposes than deer hunting I would go with the cantilever barrel.
just missed this auction earlier this year

looks to be standard Weaver style from last photo in this thread..
blurry picture but without cellophane wrapping..
but curious about mod mentioned above..
          Mounting scope on Ithaca 37

I have a couple of Nick Stroebel's gunsight and rifle scope books that might have something on this..

if all else fails, take the barrel to shop that carries various mounts in stock and see what style locks up on it.. also might want to give a little attention to the mod mentioned above see if you can mod the rings to mount in kind to the original Redfield's..

          good luck!
I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it
