I bought a Bertta A400 Xplor Unico a while back. It is the best semi shotgun I have ever owned (I thought the AL391 Urika I owned before it was the best before I got that one).

If you don't need 3.5" (you don't), I would recommend one of the sporting versions of the A400. My Xplor Unico will cycle everything from 3.5" magnums, to 3/4 oz skeet loads, without fail. The Optima HP chokes work as well as any expensive aftermarket ones I have tried.

My gun came with the Kick Off recoil reduction but the only reason I bought it this way is because that is all he had on the rack the day I bought it. It does soften things some over the non-KO versions, but these guns shoot so soft, I wouldn't pay a penny more for one with the KO setup.

Good luck with whatever you decide

I too have a Stoeger M3000. For all intents and purposes it an M2 Benelli. I even put an M2 extended charging handle on it. The thing is rock solid. Theyre nothing like the bum Stoegers from the past.

You said the "Lambo of shotguns" so you are talking like 15-20k for a new shotgun?

I have a sport ii and just bought an Ethos. Couple thousand rounds so far thru the sport ii and never had a single malfunction!

                    Beretta A400
                    Winchester SX3
                    Remington VersaMax
I even like the Remington 1187, though many people gripe on the reliability. I haven't had problems, but then I actually CLEAN my shotguns.

Lots like the Benellis. I'm not one of them. I've seen them choke on loads at the lighter end of the spectrum at least as much as I've seen 1187s do so, if not more.

Get whatever fits you the best and be happy is the best advice I can give.
