    Mossberg choke thread pitch?

Looking to find the Thread size and pitch for a 510 youth 20 ga. I sent Mossberg an email and haven't heard back.
I would think they'd use a standard thread for all their 20 ga barrels. I'm having a choke/brake made by Witt Machining and they asked for the size and pitch.

      Winchester threading

Carlson's Win Chokes fit/interchange with Winchester, Browning Invector, Mossberg, Ruger (Pre-1993), Savage Arms, and Weatherby Shotguns. Every choke we make is backed by a lifetime warranty and is made in the USA!

I hope you don't expect a "brake" to do much on a shotgun.

        1) So many over-the-counter ported chokes available. Just a mess to clean in reality.

        2) If they don't even know the threading they obviously haven't spent any time with R&D on shotgun versions of this. There's significantly more geometry going on than thread diam & pitch regardless of the ported portion.

        Run!!!!

Just trying to tame the recoil so she can shoot it with less pain. Seriously hate this shotgun.
I thought the exact same thing in regards to their knowledge or lack there of regarding thread size.

            ><

Some things that will tame felt recoil listed in order of best first

            Correct stance and gun mount
Correct LOP and stock dimensions such as comb, cast off and pitch that fits your daughter personally
Adding weight to the gun and balancing the gun with the added weight.
Soft recoil pads will help with shoulder recoil.
            Padded shooting vest

FYI....ported barrels and chokes do next to zero as far as lowering recoil and muzzle jump....all you get is a louder report

I also experimented with recoil reducers and found adding weight and balancing the gun worked better.

If your in the Bay Area...contact me for some one on one at a range

I'm in SoCal. Appreciate the info though. I put a ATI Scorpion stock on it. It helped a lot. I think a lot of it was the adjustable LOP stock.
Just curious, why do ports/brakes work on rifles but not so much on shotguns and pistols.

Fit is a key factor in felt recoil. Length of pull is just one of those geometries.

There's also low recoil/training loads. 1/2MV^2. Reduce payload mass or velocity.

                Or...increase mass of shotgun.

                or...increase mass of girl.

Some may be puzzled why porting, proven effective at destroying hearing more than anything else, but also working well for recoil attenuation in certain center fire rifle applications, has so little benefit in shotshells. The answer again lies in physics; most shotshell powders complete most of their burn in the first eighteen or so inches of barrel length. By the time the powder gasses reach the ports in the end of the barrel, there is scant gas velocity left to work with.

As for the bogus claims of recoil reduction and reduction in muzzle rise, it can't be said that it doesn't work, just that it doesn't work significantly or noticeably. To the extent that porting reduces weight, it must actually increase recoil although that is equally imperceptible.

                But if you must:

Briley is the BIGGEST and BEST shotgun choke tube manufacturer IN THE WORLD!

(Briley claims 5%) I'm sure it's the pink band (CYL) that does it. haha.

My buddy and I both bought identical 870P's at the same time.

He sent his barrel to Hans Vang to have it ported.

I honestly can't feel any difference when I shoot the two side by side, in my opinion it was a total waste of money even though it looks kinda cool.

Actually, porting works very well in some pistols...

Chamber pressures in Pistols and Rifles are much greater than those found in Shotguns. These pressures are the difference in how well porting works

You guys are missing the real value of ported barrels on a shotgun, wind resistance.

Think of it this way. When you swing a non ported barrel side to side air has to go AROUND it.

But with a ported barrel some of the air can go THRU it.

                      Every little bit helps.

                        lol damn ysr!

I have ported bbls on my Citori XS Special but I didn't have a choice as they're factory. The only thing porting does is make the gun louder and make cleaning more of a hassle. I'm OCD so sometimes I'll be sitting there for 15 minutes with a plastic pick with a patch wrapped around it trying to scoop all the crap out of the porting. Soooo not worth it.

Ysr, that's funny. I guess that's why I'm always late when I'm shooting my over under.
